As the 2025 NASCAR Throwback Weekend at Darlington Raceway approaches, NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series teams have unveiled their special paint schemes that pay homage to iconic moments and figures in NASCAR history. What’s extra special this year is that it’s also Darlington’s 75th anniversary. Here’s a look at the retro designs unveiled so far.
2025 NASCAR Throwback Weekend Paint Schemes at Darlington
Austin Cindric
Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Freightliner Ford Mustang will sport a blue and yellow design as a tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt’s No. 2 car in 1979 and 1980. Earnhardt won his first championships in this paint scheme.
Ryan Blaney
Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney will be honoring his father Dave Blaney’s 2006 Xfinity Series win at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Noah Gragson
Noah Gragson will be bringing history to life with a design that honors Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s debut in 1996.
Kyle Larson
In back-to-back seasons, Kyle Larson will be paying homage to Terry Labonte. His car will feature tiger stripes and a bright yellow No. 5, resembling the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes car from 2003.
Chase Elliott
Fellow Hendricks Motorsports driver Chase Elliott‘s paint scheme is a throwback to Ken Schrader‘s No. 25 from the 1990s.
Denny Hamlin
Denny Hamlin‘s No. 11 paint scheme will be a throwback to Carl Edwards’ No. 99 Office Depot car from 2006 and 2007.
Josh Berry
Josh Berry and Wood Brothers Racing’s No. 21 will sport a paint scheme to pay homage to Jim Clark‘s green-and-yellow No. 82 from Team Lotus’ winning 1965 Indianapolis 500 car. The Wood Brothers served as a pit crew for that race.
William Byron
William Byron‘s paint scheme will be a throwback to Jeff Gordon’s silver scheme No. 24 car that he ran in his final full-time season in 2015.
Ty Dillon
Ty Dillon‘s No. 10 will be a close replica of Patty Moise’s 1989 No. 45, seen at the Daytona International Speedway.
Christopher Bell
Christopher Bell will be honoring his racing mentor, Rick Ferkel, with two throwback paint schemes this weekend. His No. 20 Cup car features the iconic yellow design of Ferkel’s No. 0 winged Sprint Car following his mentor’s passing on January 1, 2024.
Joey Logano
Joey Logano‘s No. 22 car will be a throwback to the 1976 car of three-time Cup champion Cale Yarborough.
Todd Gilliland
Todd Gilliland‘s scheme is special to Front Row Motorsports as it honors rear tire changer Justin Fox’s great-grandfather, Ray Fox.
Alex Bowman
Another one of Hendrick Motorsports’ cars will be a throwback to the same driver they honored the previous year. Alex Bowman‘s No. 48 will be in the same paint scheme that Jimmie Johnson achieved Hendrick’s 200th win at Darlington in 2012.
These specially crafted throwback paint jobs have been a NASCAR tradition for the last few years. They celebrate NASCAR’s history and connect past legends with the present generation of drivers. They also take fans of the sport down a nostalgic road.
