Anthony Volpe has been with the New York Yankees for three seasons now, as he looks to have his best season yet. While his batting average (.236) is just a few ticks below last season’s .241, his slugging and OPS are far superior. After a three-hit game, Volpe was informed that he would not play on June 22.

Yankees Fans Let Aaron Boone Hear it as Anthony Volpe Has “Scheduled Day Off”
Scheduled rest days are standard across Major League Baseball, especially following a night game ahead of a day game. However, while managing workloads is routine, Yankees fans were less than thrilled with Aaron Boone’s timing.
Volpe had been hitless from June 15-20, but a 3-4 game with a home run was exactly what he needed to get back on track. The Yankees took down the Baltimore Orioles with ease, 9-0. It was Volpe’s first three-hit game since May 24 when the Yankees beat the Colorado Rockies 13-1. With two RBIs in his last three games, Volpe seemed to be heading in the right direction again.
With his .227 batting average in June, Volpe has just a few games left to avoid his worst month of the season. Boone sticks to his script, which will only hinder Volpe’s performance in the long run.

“God forbid Boone abandons his precious scheduled off days,” this fan said in frustration. Another added, “Can’t make it up” with a pair of laughing emojis. Someone else chimed in, “Why does Boone do this??? Dude finally getting hot. Boone clueless.”
This individual looked at it from the other perspective: “Some people just need more rest. Maybe he’s conserving energy because he has to play every day. Get him more days off, and we’ll see more days like this.” This person also mentioned, “One day doesn’t change how awful he has been. Sit him!”
Volpe’s last off day was on Monday, June 9. In his first game back, he went 2-5 with a double. Returning to his only other off day in the month, Monday, June 2, he returned to the lineup with a 1-3 effort, with that lone hit being a solo home run. The 24-year-old has three home runs this month, matching his total from April. One off-day will not set him back, but it comes at a tough time after his best performance in nearly a month.
