The New York Yankees have needed other pitchers to step up in 2025 because of the injuries in their rotation. One pitcher who has been struggling to step up during the 2025 MLB season has been Carlos Rodón.
Rodón has not had a good start to the 2025 MLB season. When the Yankees faced the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, it was the latest example of his struggling in baseball games. After the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone decided to defend his struggles, which did not make New York’s fanbase happy.
New York Yankees Fans Fed Up With Aaron Boone After Latest Carlos Rodón Outing
When the Yankees lost to the Giants 5-4 on Sunday, Rodón had another rough outing. He pitched 5.2 innings and gave up three hits and four runs. Rodón also walked three batters and struck out eight batters.
In four games started during the 2025 MLB season, he has a 1-3 record with a 5.48 ERA. In 23.0 innings pitched, he has given up 14 hits and 15 runs. Rodón has also walked 12 batters and has struck out 28 batters. His WHIP is 1.13.
Despite the struggles during the 2025 MLB season, the Yankees manager decided to defend Rodón after the loss against San Francisco. Boone said, “I know there’s a lot of noise around Carlos and his last two starts where he gives up three-run homers, but I think it’s really important to acknowledge how well he’s throwing the baseball, too.”
Boone’s statement did not please the Yankees fanbase. One New York fan said, “Please fire Boone already.”
Another fan thinks that he can have one of the season’s best games but believes that Rodón is prone to giving up the long ball. They said, “It doesn’t matter if he is perfect through 8 and 2/3rd innings. He is going to give up that big HR when it matters the most.”
One Yankees fan added, “With the state of the pitching staff, it’s nearly impossible to get on Rodón. We know his weaknesses. The Yankee bats have to be ready to go when he starts. They know he’s susceptible to the long ball, so no lead is safe. He’s also capable of pretty much shutting any lineup down.”
Someone else said, “Boone putting a positive spin on bad results? Who could’ve guessed this?.”
Another fan thinks the Yankees are not getting their money’s worth with Rodón. They said, “He gets paid like an Ace and pitches like a mop-up reliever.”
Rodón is 32 and in the third season of his six-year $162 million deal with the Yankees. He will not be a free agent until after the 2028 season. If Rodón continues to struggle, it remains to be seen what New York will do with him when they get reinforcements back later in the season. It appears this franchise has buyer’s remorse with its contract.
