The Baltimore Orioles have had an incredible run since 2023, combining for a 192-132 record entering the 2025 season. But there’s reason to believe that manager Brandon Hyde — who is currently in the eighth year of his tenure — could be on the hot seat. After consecutive first-round postseason exits, would the O’s replace Hyde if they have another disappointing season?
Would the Orioles Fire Brandon Hyde?
In a recent article by MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Hyde was listed as one of nine MLB managers who could have their job status in flux by the end of the year. Rosenthal cited the O’s 34-48 finish to the 2024 season, along with their current slow start.

No Orioles starting pitcher is holding opponents under .300.

He went on to suggest Buck Britton — brother of former O’s closer Zach Britton — could be a potential replacement since he managed several of the younger players on the team in the minors before joining the big-league staff this year. This makes a lot of sense because of Britton’s familiarity with these players.
While this feels like an interesting fit, it’s likely that the O’s would need to have a disastrous season for Hyde to be replaced. Perhaps if they finish last in the division in a year where they were considered World Series contenders, they would make a change at manager.
Orioles Season Outlook
While there’s a risk of a down year for Baltimore, don’t be surprised if general manager Mike Elias bolsters the starting rotation with a big move, perhaps trading for Miami Marlins’ ace Sandy Alcantara.

With starters Grayson Rodriguez, Zach Eflin, and Kyle Bradish on the injured list, it’s clear that this team needs to address its depleted rotation. There is still enough talent in the minors to use in a trade — perhaps infielder Coby Mayo would make sense as a touted prospect to include in an Alcantara deal.
If the O’s are able to land a big prize like Alcantara, they would be in a good spot to turn their season around with a strong second half. By that time, Rodriguez, Eflin, and Bradish would likely be able to return.
Even if the Orioles end up missing the playoffs, there’s a good chance that they’d give Hyde another year to see if they can bounce back in 2026. Needless to say, it’s unlikely that we see a new manager in Baltimore at the end of the year. Expect them to get back on track at some point of the season.
Blame Mike Elias, not Hyde for not getting some decent pitching.
