Baseball’s Next Big Name? Insider Sparks Fans’ Hopes with Trey Yesavage’s Meteoric Climb Inside Blue Jays’ System

The Toronto Blue Jays are hanging around in the American League East standings and in the American League Wild Card race with June underway. The standings aren’t reflective of a team looking to be sellers at the trade deadline.

The decision to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term contract looks like a great move, helping to alleviate any questions of a rebuild, although it remains to be seen what happens with Bo Bichette as his name keeps coming up in trade rumors.

There is another player making a quick rise up the Toronto system: No. 2 prospect Trey Yesavage. The pitcher is making waves in the Blue Jays farm system, and he was recently moved up again.

Trey Yesavage Promoted to Double-A New Hampshire

Yesavage is enjoying a dominant run on the farm, leading the entire minor leagues in strikeouts with 88 in just 50 2/3 innings. On June 9, the Blue Jays decided to promote Yesavage to Double-A New Hampshire, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.

Matheson wrote: “The #BlueJays are promoting No. 2 prospect Trey Yesavage to Double-A New Hampshire, source says, after making just four starts in Vancouver. He’s been the story of the season in a system that’s suddenly producing a ton of good ones.”

That’s a very quick promotion for Yesavage, and it could be a sign of things to come.

Will he be in the majors in 2025?

Matheson answered that question with a hint that he could be coming up, which is a change from what was initially thought.

Coming into ’25, I would have given Yesavage a 0% chance of touching the big leagues. It’s still not the likely outcome by any means, but I can’t give it a 0% anymore. Huge developmental success for the #BlueJays so far, and if he becomes a late option? Bonus on top of a bonus.”

Yesavage has been lights out in the minor league system. In High-A Vancouver, he registered a whopping 1.56 ERA and struck out nine batters in his latest outing before being moved up. This year, he has a 4-0 record with a 2.13 ERA between A and High-A, and now he is making his way up after just 11 appearances.

Yesavage was the 20th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft after he played at East Carolina in college, and so far, he is doing nothing but having success in the minors. He also leads the minors in every level with 88 strikeouts in just 50 2/3 innings while walking just 18 batters.

The Blue Jays’ playoff hopes are increasing by the day, so adding youth to the roster for developmental purposes doesn’t make sense at this moment. Then again, Yesavage is throwing lights out at every level, and if it keeps up, it might be hard not to bring him up.
