Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor shared a hilarious moment during an afternoon game between the New York Mets and Miami Marlins on April 9. Lindor was having issues removing the bat weight—also known as a “donut”—before his plate appearance.
After several failed attempts, Alonso jumped in to help out his teammate. The moment sparked comparisons to a similar incident involving Giancarlo Stanton and Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the New York Yankees.

As seen in the clip, Lindor tried to remove the weight from his bat 11 times before Alonso stepped in. After just two tries, the Mets’ first baseman got it off, allowing Lindor to make his way to the plate.
We’ve seen a similar moment with the Yankees

Just like Lindor with Alonso, Chisholm handed his bat to the strongest guy on the team—Stanton. It turns out the Mets and Yankees have more in common than just sharing a city.
Potential Subway Series in 2025 World Series?
Both the Mets (8-4) and Yankees (7-5) are off to strong starts to the 2025 MLB season. Each team is seen as a legitimate World Series contender, which makes the idea of a Subway Series in October all the more intriguing. The potential for a series where Juan Soto faces off against his former team would create an electric atmosphere that baseball needs.
The Mets are built for a deep postseason run. They have a strong lineup featuring stars like Alonso, Lindor and Soto, and a promising mix of young talent in Mark Vientos and Francisco Alvarez (once he returns from injury).
Owner Steve Cohen has shown he’s not afraid to spend, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a major addition at the trade deadline—maybe a veteran starter like Sonny Gray.
Meanwhile, the Yankees haven’t skipped a beat without Soto, currently leading the league in home runs. Aaron Judge continues to do what he does best, while Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe are off to hot starts. When Stanton returns, this lineup could be even more dangerous.
Like the Mets, the Yankees are expected to be active at the trade deadline—likely eyeing pitching help with Gerrit Cole still sidelined.
The path won’t be easy, but there’s a very real chance we could see Mets vs. Yankees in the 2025 World Series. And if we do, maybe we’ll get a replay of that donut-removal assist on the sport’s biggest stage.
