With a 43-45 record, the Boston Red Sox are searching for consistency as the trade deadline approaches. After trading franchise star Rafael Devers in mid-June, the team has struggled to gain momentum, but still finds itself in contention for an American League wild card spot.
Red Sox President Sam Kennedy recently signaled that ownership is willing to make bold moves to help push the team into the postseason, setting up a potentially pivotal stretch for Boston.

Red Sox Plan to Be Aggressive at Trade Deadline
Kennedy’s appearance on “The Greg Hill Show” made clear that the Red Sox have ownership’s backing to spend at the trade deadline.
Kennedy explained that while the team will explore trades to improve the roster, he emphasized, “we have to start playing better baseball on a more consistent basis.” He acknowledged that stronger play is necessary to make a realistic run at the playoffs.
With the San Francisco Giants taking on the more than $200 million left on Devers’ contract, the Red Sox now have financial flexibility to reinvest in their roster.
Much of the team’s future outlook may depend on what happens with third baseman Alex Bregman, who is approaching a return from a strained quadriceps. Bregman was among the league’s top hitters early in the season, posting a .299 average with 11 home runs and 32 runs batted in before his injury.
He has a player option to opt out of his contract after the season, and while he’s open to re-signing with Boston, his next deal is expected to come at a much higher price.

In addition to needing a spark on offense, the Red Sox are expected to seek pitching help before the deadline.
Garrett Crochet has lived up to expectations as the team’s ace since being acquired and signed to a long-term deal, but free agent pickup Walker Buehler has struggled to find his form.
All-Star Tanner Houck, who had a rough start to the season, is currently on the injured list, further complicating the rotation picture.
Looking ahead, Boston will likely explore options to bolster its infield. Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez have provided solid production, but the team needs more power from first base to remain competitive in the wild card chase.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Red Sox have an opportunity to address these weaknesses and make a push for the postseason.
