Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has provided a significant update on veteran infielder Alex Bregman’s quad injury. He suffered the mishap during the May 23 game against the Baltimore Orioles.
Bregman lined a single to left field in the fifth inning, awkwardly rounding first base and calling for the trainer before limping off the field. After undergoing an MRI, he was placed on the injury list.

Alex Bregman’s Quad Injury Update
This isn’t Bregman’s first quad injury—he was previously sidelined for two months as an Astros player due to the same issue. He missed 58 games that season after going down on June 17, 2021, only to return on August 25, 2021.
However, the Red Sox cannot afford to be without Bregman for long as the team heads into a crucial phase of the 2025 season. They have missed his presence on the field and his impact as a hitter at the plate.

Cora’s update on the veteran’s progression in his recovery should fill Red Sox fans with optimism. Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reported that Cora noted Bregman was feeling a lot better and started his running progression, and he’s “locked in”.
How Have Red Sox Performed Without Alex Bregman?
Since Bregman’s injury on May 23 against the Orioles, the Red Sox have struggled massively with a 4-9 record.
The three-time All-Star third baseman has been one of Boston’s best hitters this season, slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs in 51 games. Moreover, the team has missed his leadership on the field and his ability to challenge opposing pitchers.
While no timeline has been shared about Bregman’s return, one thing is certain — the Red Sox need their hottest right-handed hitter back quickly. Cora might have a date in mind, but he chose not to reveal it to the media, likely to keep the pressure away from the veteran hitter.
