As a two-time World Series champion, Dave Dombrowski wants to bring another one to Philadelphia. Serving as the Phillies’ president of baseball operations since 2021, Dombrowski was recently brought up in an interview with Phillies General Manager Preston Mattingly.
With so many key pieces in the front office, Mattingly praised Dombrowski as the team eyes its next move at the MLB trade deadline.

Mattingly Hints at Dombrowski Having Some Moves Up His Sleeve
The National League East Division can’t possibly get any more competitive as the Phillies are tied with the New York Mets at 46-31. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers have more wins in the NL (47), with the Chicago Cubs having 46 as well.
The Phillies’ or Mets’ record would be good for first place in either the American League East or West divisions, but they’re stuck competing neck and neck with each other.
“We’re looking at any and every option to try to get our club better.”

Mattingly spoke about Dombrowski and his involvement with the team. “The way I describe Dave is he’s a machine, honestly,” he said. “I think he reads so many things, whether it’s scouting reports or emails, he’s always on top of everything and he’s always looking to improve our club. We’re looking into any and every option to make our club better.
“I think the one thing I’ve learned from him is the importance of every single day,” he added. “He won’t let any little thing go unnoticed, and he’s always on top of it and always there to make sure have a conversation with something if it’s not to his or the organization’s liking.”
While the Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants made the first big trade ahead of the deadline, the Phillies might be the next team to make a move. The Giants and Yankees have their eye on a Pirates infielder as the Phillies finish a crucial three-game series against the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball.
Having split the first two games, it all comes down to this. Mattingly knows how much every game means. One win could be the tiebreaker at the end of the season if both teams remain this good.
The Phillies have won three of their last four, and nine of their last 12, but they know it might not be enough. Even with the Mets’ seven-game losing streak ending recently, they still have much talent to finish the job.
Phillies fans should be ecstatic that a move could be coming for Philadelphia. Their starting rotation is quite solid, but there’s always room for improvement. The bullpen has been spotty (4.64 ERA), which could be the ideal target for a Dombrowski move. Another bat or two never hurts, but at this point, it’s uncertain who precisely the team could be targeting.
