Aaron Nola Injury Update: Phillies Ace Sidelined for Weeks Following Concerning MRI Results

The Philadelphia Phillies have been dealt a blow after it was announced that their pitching ace, Aaron Nola, will be sidelined for a few weeks due to an injury. Nola has been struggling on the mound this season. He is currently 1-7 for the campaign with a disappointing ERA of 6.16, 52 strikeouts, and a 1.51 WHIP in nine starts this season.

This is one of the worst starts of his more than decade-long MLB career with the Phillies. The 32-year-old has looked out of touch with his pitching discipline, and the hitters have made the most of his struggles by taking the game to him from the onset of his starts this campaign.

Phillies Report Aaron Nola Has Stress Reaction In His Right Rib

The Phillies and the Philadelphia Inquirer senior MLB reporter, Scott Lauber, shared the exclusive updates regarding Nola’s injury in a post on X.com. He shared the official statement by the organization, which stated that their pitching ace had suffered a stress reaction in his right rib per the latest results of the MRI scans.

Nola made his big league debut with the Phillies in 2015, and since then has been largely consistent with his outings, only going below the .500 winning percentage mark twice in the last ten seasons. His consistent performances and amazing game-reading ability were rewarded with a seven-year, $172 million contract extension in Nov 2023.

While he compiled a decent 14-8 record in 33 starts last season, Nola has been grappling with losses this campaign. His current winning percentage stands at a major low of .125. With the rib strain, he is set to miss out on throwing for another two weeks. The Phillies have been struggling with injuries to their bullpen, which has heavily affected their form this season.

The Philadelphia Phillies Are 2-8 In Their Last Ten Games

The Phillies are currently 38-29 for the season and have lost eight of their last ten games. Despite acquiring the No. 2 spot in the NL East division, the 2022 NL pennant winners have failed to compile long winning streaks this campaign. They have now lost three back-to-back series against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Out of those three series losses, two have been absolute sweeps, which they sustained at home against the Brewers and at PNC Park against the Pirates. The Phillies have now kicked off a six-game homestand at Citizens Bank Park and are currently 1-1 with the Chicago Cubs in the three-game series.

After the series against the Cubs, the 2008 World Champions welcome the Blue Jays for a three-game series at home. The Phillies will be hoping to win two series on the trot at home to finally end their recent losing slump.
