Pete Alonso Reveals the Key Quality That Makes Francisco Lindor Heart And Soul Of the Mets

The New York Mets have established themselves as one of the best teams in baseball so far, as highlighted by a 34-22 record. While Pete Alonso has been one of the headliners, featuring a .290 batting average with 11 home runs, the star first baseman recently spoke about how shortstop Francisco Lindor is the heart and soul of the Mets.

Pete Alonso Praises Francisco Lindor’s Work Ethic

In a recent interview with the popular baseball show “Foul Territory,” Alonso spoke about how he loves that Lindor “shows up every day,” meaning that he’s always putting 100 percent effort into the Mets organization as they try to win a World Series.

Alonso went on to say that Lindor is “the type of guy that’s willing to strap it on, no matter what. It doesn’t matter how he’s feeling — he wants to play 162 games.” The highlight here is Lindor’s willingness to suit up every day, even if he’s banged up with an injury. That type of attitude is what you need to contend for a World Series.

The numbers back up that statement as well, as Lindor has played in 150+ games in three of his four seasons with the Mets so far. The star shortstop is well on his way to eclipsing this number again this year, as he’s suited up in all 55 games so far.

Having one of your best players show this type of consistency is huge for establishing a strong clubhouse culture.

Lindor Season Outlook

Lindor continues to get it done for the Mets, putting up a .269 batting average with 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 55 games. The star shortstop has already been worth 2.0 Wins Above Replacement (WAR), putting him on track for another 5.0+ WAR season, which is a number he’s hit in each of the last three years.

One of the biggest keys for Lindor’s continued success is how he’s able to limit strikeouts and put balls in play, as highlighted by his 17.6 K%, which is a 0.8% decrease from last year.

Having a perennial 30-home run hitter who is able to limit their strikeouts has been huge for the Mets.

We haven’t seen Lindor slow down on the base paths yet, either, as he’s currently on pace for yet another 30+ steal season. This is truly a five-tool player who has shown incredible consistency throughout his big-league career.

Now, the Mets just need prized acquisition Juan Soto to get on track, and they’ll be well on their way to a deep playoff run.
