Amid Recent Struggles, New York Yankees Linked to Arizona Diamondbacks Infielder Despite Urgent Need for Pitching

Despite a rough series with the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees remain on top of the American League East at 39-25.

With the trade deadline nearing, teams are evaluating their rosters and planning potential moves. One MLB insider believes the Yankees could make a surprising addition as they gear up for another possible World Series run this season.

Yankees Linked With Potential Offensive Upgrades Instead of Pitching Help

ESPN insider Bradford Doolittle recently explained each team’s potential objectives at the trade deadline; surprisingly, he stated that the Yankees should look to add an impact hitter such as Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

Adding offense is not the first thing that comes to mind for most Yankees fans when thinking about trade deadline needs, especially since the team currently ranks first in home runs, second in batting average, and third in RBIs.

It is also notable that Giancarlo Stanton is on track to return from injury within the next month, and he could help reinforce the team’s offense.

However, there is no debate that Suárez would enhance the Yankees’ lineup.

He currently ranks in the top 10 in both home runs and RBIs and has been one of the league’s top slugging third basemen for nearly a decade. With 294 career home runs, he is a safe bet to reach at least 350 before his career ends, and he could even make a run at 400 if he maintains his power into his late 30s.

Acquiring Suárez likely pushes DJ LeMahieu back to the bench. The soon-to-be 37-year-old still has one year on his contract after this season. The former batting champion is currently hitting .258 with a .704 OPS and has shown significant signs of decline over the last few years.

The Yankees are almost sure to target both starting pitching and bullpen reinforcements at the trade deadline.

Ace Max Fried is headed to the All-Star Game, and Carlos Rodón could join him if he stays on track over the next few weeks. However, the rest of the Yankees’ rotation remains uncertain, making a starting pitcher a likely trade target to strengthen their postseason plans. The bullpen could also use a boost, especially with Luke Weaver out due to a hamstring strain and ongoing inconsistencies from Devin Williams.

Whether the Yankees add Suárez or an impact arm, look for them to make a significant move at the trade deadline.
