The New York Mets have decided to send back Ronald Acuna Jr.’s brother, Luisangel Acuna, to their Triple-A minor league affiliates while promoting outfielder Travis Jankowski, who will be taking the infielder’s place on the 40-man roster. Acuna will now be playing for the Syracuse Mets, while Jankowski will be eager to commence his third stint with last year’s NLCS finalists in the big leagues.
Jankowski’s first stint with the Mets came in 2022, and the second in 2023, after he was traded to the Texas Rangers in a midseason trade, and that allowed the OF to claim his maiden World Series title two years ago. He then signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox and was subsequently traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in April.
In June, Jankowski was dropped from the Rays’ 40-man roster and ultimately signed a minor league contract with the Mets to begin his third stint with the eternal underdogs of the major leagues.

New York Mets Roster Move: Dropping Luisangel Acuna and Selecting Travis Jankowski’s Contract
The official X.com page of Talkin’ Baseball shared the breaking news regarding the Mets’ latest roster move on social media after Acuna had an inconsistent performance in both departments of the game. The second baseman just had a .241 batting average, with no home runs, six RBIs, and a .576 OPS in 65 games played in the current MLB campaign.

Acuna is just 23 years old, and he still has a lot of time to improve and hone his baseball skills. The Mets are staying competitive to fight for the top spot in the NL East division, which has largely been a two-way competition but might turn into a three-way if the Atlanta Braves take down the Mets in their ongoing four-game intra-divisional series.
As a result, to increase batting depth and reliability in the outfield, the organization decided to give a chance to the veteran OF Jankowski in the current MLB season. This season with Syracuse in the minor leagues, the 34-year-old slashed for a .200 batting average, with one HR, two RBIs, and two SB. It will be interesting to see how Jankowski aims to help the Mets in the remainder of the campaign.
The Mets Have Been on a Harrowing Run in Recent Games
The Mets have hit a slump in recent games this season. Heading into the four-game series against the Braves, they had lost three regular-season series in a row, which included two sweeps, one against the Rays and the other against the Braves. After losing the series opener against the Braves on Monday, they are now 1-9 in the last ten games.
This poor run has allowed the Philadelphia Phillies to not only close the gap on them but also take the top spot in the division standings. The next three games of the series between the Braves and the Mets will be crucial in determining who remains in the lead of the NL East division after Thursday.
