After third baseman Mark Vientos tripped out of the batter’s box and pulled his hamstring during the New York Mets’ 4-3 victory over the Dodgers on Monday, June 2, the Mets tested him.
After the game, it was unclear how serious Vientos’ possible injury was, but Mets manager Carlos Mendoza stated, “It didn’t look good.” He is undergoing all of the tests.

Ronny Mauricio’s Wait Is Finally Over Amid Mark Vientos’ Injury
Joel Sherman of the New York Post confirmed on X that Ronny Mauricio is returning to the major leagues following Vientos’ injury. The former top prospect will be promoted and join the team in Los Angeles for the second game of their four-game series against the Dodgers.

This season, Mauricio had a strong start with Triple-A Syracuse. Mauricio, a switch-hitter, slashed in 39 plate appearances in nine games with four stolen bases and three homers. He, who made his Mets debut in 2023, is renowned for his extreme ball-hitting power.
Not too long ago, Mauricio was a high prospect, and he kept reminding people of that. After recovering from an ACL tear, the Mets’ infielder continued his impressive play in the minor leagues with the Syracuse Mets in late May, hitting a massive home run to right field.

The Mets had long hailed Mauricio as a possible starter, and he demonstrated promise during his 2023 call-up, hitting .248 with an OPS of .643.
However, after he tore his ACL in a Dominican Winter League game in December 2023 and had scar tissue removed, his momentum came tumbling down.
According to the New York Post, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said on Friday, May 30: “He’s doing a great job. No. 1 is health and getting him back and building up the volume. We’re continuing to do that.”
“Any time you see players consistently hit lasers all over the field, which is what he’s doing right now in Triple-A, you pay attention. We’re paying attention and will continue to monitor that and see where it goes.”
Last week, from May 28-29 and May 31-June 1, Mauricio played his first full back-to-back games in the field. He has played both third base and second base for Syracuse. Mauricio’s primary position as he progressed through the Mets’ development system was shortstop, which he played earlier in his rehab assignment.
Recently, the Mets have alternated between Brett Baty, Jeff McNeil, and Luisangel Acuña at second base and Vientos at third base. However, Acuña only managed a .476 OPS in May and has spent the last few weeks primarily playing as a defensive replacement later in games.
Vientos saw time as a designated hitter as Baty recently gained more starts at third base, which may open up another avenue for Mauricio to get playing time. The Mets have also employed Jared Young against right-handers and Starling Marte against left-handers at DH.
