The New York Mets were recently swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates and did so with historic futility. The team didn’t score more than two runs in a single game as they gave up nine runs in the first two games of the series, followed by a 12-1 loss on June 29.
Things seemed on the rise once again as the team grabbed a pair of wins against the Atlanta Braves, but owner Steve Cohen remains optimistic about the team’s fate with the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees looming.

Steve Cohen’s Rally Cry for New York Mets Fans To Keep Believing
Last season, the Mets defeated the Brewers in an incredible three-game series to move forward in the MLB playoffs. Many were shocked as the team made it to the NLCS, where the eventual World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, defeated them. Next, they’ll host Milwaukee for a crucial three-game series as they attempt to rebound.

“Tough stretch, no sugarcoating it. I didn’t see this coming,” Cohen said. “I’m as frustrated as everybody else. We will get through this period. Our injured pitching will come back over the next few weeks. It is unlikely the team’s hitting with RISP will continue at this weak pace. Keep the faith!”
Injured pitching is one sign of a rough stretch, but not hitting with RISP hurts just as much. Pittsburgh doesn’t embarrass teams like this very often, and it didn’t even come with Paul Skenes on the mound. If the Mets thought that was bad, they matched up against the Brewers’ ace, Freddy Peralta, along with one of the frontrunners to win NL Rookie of the Year, Jacob Misiorowski on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also, Jose Quintana will take the mound for the series finale against New York. Quintana played in Flushing from 2023-2024 and was crucial to the Mets’ postseason success against the Brewers. The 36-year-old sports a fantastic 6-2 record this season with a 3.30 ERA.
Regardless, Cohen hopes that fans will continue to support the team as they’ve fallen 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. Since June 13, this team has won just three of its 16 games. New York has been shut out twice in that span and has only scored one run in four of those games. On three occasions, it has scored two runs.
Just four series remain before the All-Star break, which will be a crucial time to reset. Cohen’s squad has not played to their abilities, and Mets fans know something needs to change if they want to compete with the Phillies at the end of the season.
