The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a strong start to the 2025 season, but third baseman Max Muncy is going through a rough stretch despite playing almost every game so far. Muncy has been struggling badly at the plate since Opening Day and is facing a lot of criticism from Dodgers fans right now.
Earlier this week, Muncy was verbally assaulted and challenged to a physical fight by a fan while boarding the team bus after the series against the Chicago Cubs. Meanwhile, his wife, Kellie, has also been receiving hateful messages online from frustrated Dodgers supporters.
Max Muncy’s Wife Offers Composed Response to Hate Mail From Dodgers Supporters
On Saturday, Kellie Muncy shared a screenshot of trolling messages about her husband that a Dodgers fan had been sending her on social media. She also offered a response to the hurtful words, showing that the couple is staying unmoved by the hostility.
“Your husband’s fat, and he sucks at his job,” wrote a fan who went by the name of zanderzupon on Instagram. “That fat f*** couldn’t hit s*** falling out of a boat.”
Kellie offered a short and composed response to the hateful jibes in her Instagram story.
“Here’s your daily reminder to be kind and to not be like Zander,” she wrote, adding peace and love hand signs.
Despite the heartwarming reaction from his wife, the situation is only getting worse for Muncy on the field. The 34-year-old extended his hitless streak to five games after going 0-for-4 against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. He now has a .167/.283/.231 slash line for the season, with no home runs, four RBIs and an OPS+ of just 55.
MLB Insider Rules Out Trade Move for Muncy
Muncy’s extended slump in the opening month of the 2025 season has unsurprisingly sparked rumors about a possible move away from the Dodgers. However, MLB insider Bob Nightengale believes the two-time All-Star will remain with the Dodgers beyond the 2025 season.
“I do [think he’s back next season]. And I mean, picking up $10 million is a no-brainer,” he told Doug McKain on the Dodgers Nation podcast. “I would think they just simply do that and then play it by ear and see what happens after the end of 2026. He loves it there, obviously. They love him. So I don’t see Muncy going anywhere.”
Muncy is playing his eighth season for the Dodgers and is tied to the club through next year. He signed a two-year, $24 million extension in 2023 that includes a $10 million club option for 2026.
