After Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil were injured in spring training, many people worried about the New York Yankees’ pitching depth. To begin the season, the Yankees are an average team with an 8-7 record, but a few particular pitchers have cost them. One has been Marcus Stroman, who has struggled this season and now has an injury.
Marcus Stroman Will Miss Some Time
Stroman has made three starts this season and has struggled in all of them. He has thrown 9.1 innings, allowing 12 hits and 12 earned runs. At his last start, he could not make it out of the first inning, and now he will miss some time due to a knee injury.
According to Bryan Hoch, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Stroman had a cortisone shot and “We’re hoping it’s not long.”

While Stroman was not pitching well this season, he was at least someone the Yankees could count on to start games. Now they have even more question marks on their pitching staff. Their rotation is down to Max Fried, Carlos Rodón, and Will Warren. Only a few weeks into the season, the Yankees are in a tough spot at starting pitcher.
Yankees Injuries Piling Up
It is hard to remain competitive in the MLB when your team cannot stay healthy. Outside the starting pitchers, the Yankees are also missing Giancarlo Stanton and DJ LeMahieu. This seems to be a common theme for the Yankees each season, but missing so many players this early may be tough to recover from.
Outside of the injuries, the Yankees’ other problem is the division they play in. Five teams are separated by 2.5 games, and each seems good enough to remain competitive throughout the season.
As we have seen from the Yankees front office in the past, they are always willing to make moves to improve their team. We should expect them to be aggressive on the trade market this season, especially in the starting pitcher market.
After the season’s first series, all people wanted to talk about was the Yankees’ use of the torpedo bats. Many thought the team found a loophole by using bats with a bigger barrel, but that no longer looks to be the case as their offensive production has dipped after the first three games. Getting back to the World Series and winning it is the only goal in New York. But they will struggle to make that happen if they cannot stay healthy.
