White Sox Manager Makes Things Clear About Luis Robert Jr.’s Trade

Appearing on MLB Radio, Getz addressed the rumors. “We’ve got another two years of Luis Robert, potentially with the Chicago White Sox,” he said. “I get excited every day knowing that he’s in the lineup.”

Despite interest from other teams, Getz emphasized that the White Sox aren’t actively planning to sell off Robert. “We like him with the Chicago White Sox,” he noted, though he left the proposal open, saying that they may consider trading him in the future if it’s needed.

Robert is a former All-Star and 2023 Silver Slugger winner who is understandably one of the most wanted talents in the world of baseball. However, his recent performance hasn’t been his usual top tier.

Since 2024, he’s posted a slash line of .224/.278/.379 (batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage) with a .657 OPS across 629 plate appearances, which has been far from his 2021-2023 line. This season, his .185/.267/.305 line, seven home runs, and a .572 OPS is showing him struggling to get the form he once had.

The White Sox’s rebuild has shifted their focus, making them likely sellers by July 31. Reports hint the team is open to including cash in a Robert trade, a sign of their willingness to offload his $15 million 2025 salary and a potential $20 million club option for 2026-2027 (with a $2 million buyout).

Analysts suggest Chicago might need to add at least $2 million to secure even a modest prospective return. As the deadline comes close, the White Sox will need to make the hard choices. Keeping Robert could anchor their rebuild if he regains his form, but his contract and current output make him a tough sell. Getz’s approach towards nurturing the player rather than trading them may result in Robert’s talent shining again.

For now, Chicago’s vision rests on whether its star can rediscover the magic that once made him one of baseball’s brightest prospects.
