Teary-Eyed Kyle Freeland Delivers Emotional 6-Word Message to Rockies Fans Amid Historic Slide

The Colorado Rockies faced the Detroit Tigers in a doubleheader on Thursday. Starting pitcher Kyle Freeland took the mound in Game 1, and the Rockies lost 10–2.

Freeland spoke to the media after the loss and got emotional about the tough stretch Colorado has been going through during the 2025 MLB season. The Rockies weren’t a good team in 2024, and they’re now on pace to be one of the worst teams in MLB history if the losses continue.

Colorado Rockies Starting Pitcher Kyle Freeland Gets Emotional After Game 1 of Doubleheader

Following the Rockies’ 10–2 loss to the Tigers in Game 1 on Thursday, Freeland addressed reporters. He said, “Keep believing in us. Keep riding.” Colorado is currently on pace to lose 135 games this season—a mark that would be worse than the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who finished 41–121.

Freeland struggled in his outing, pitching just three innings while giving up 11 hits and nine earned runs. He walked one batter and struck out two. Through eight appearances in 2025, Freeland has a 0–5 record with a 6.41 ERA. In 39.1 innings, he’s given up 58 hits, 34 earned runs, walked seven, and struck out 30. His WHIP stands at 1.65.

After Game 1, the Tigers improved to 24–13, while the Rockies dropped to 6–30. Things didn’t improve in the second half of the doubleheader.

Detroit once again dominated in Game 2, defeating Colorado 11–1. With the sweep, the Tigers moved to 25–13, while the Rockies fell to 6–31. That puts Colorado’s winning percentage at just .162 in 2025.

The Rockies’ weekend won’t be any easier. They open a three-game series at home against the San Diego Padres on Friday night. San Diego comes in with a 23–13 record. Colorado is the only team in the National League West with a sub-.500 record, while the other four teams are all in playoff contention.

Rockies fans are less focused on postseason dreams and more concerned with simply becoming a respectable baseball team again. Freeland’s emotional message to the fanbase is a reminder that the players haven’t given up—now they’ll hope that message starts to translate on the field.
