Joe Torre Will Be A Part of the American League All-Star Game Staff

Yankees beat writer Chris Kirschner announced on X that Torre, a Hall of Fame manager and Yankees legend, will serve as an honorary coach on current Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s American League staff.

Boone earned the opportunity to manage the AL team after leading the Yankees to the American League pennant last season. MLB announced that Torre will coach alongside Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt.

Torre managed the Yankees for 12 seasons and won four championships. He oversaw the last Yankees dynasty with shortstop Derek Jeter, closer Mariano Rivera, center fielder Bernie Williams, catcher Jorge Posada, and several notable free agent additions such as pitcher Roger Clemens.

Torre was named American League Manager of the Year twice and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014. The All-Star Game, which will take place in Atlanta, also allows for Torre to enjoy a special homecoming.

Torre Spent Eight Years In Atlanta Organization

He spent eight years in the Braves organization as a player and made five straight All-Star Games as a catcher. Torre also managed the Braves for three years and was named Manager of the Year in 1982. Torre is the only manager in MLB history to have 2,000 wins as a manger and 2,000 hits as a player.

It’s a special moment for Boone as well, who played for Torre in 2003. Boone was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 1994 and finally became an All-Star in his final half-season with the team.

Two weeks after representing the Reds in the All-Star Game, Boone was traded to the Yankees. He produced one of the most legendary moments in franchise history that October, hitting an extra-inning, walk-off home run in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox. The home run clinched the AL pennant and sent the Yankees back to the World Series.

After signing a two-year contract extension before the start of this season, Boone will attempt to finally join Torre in the club of Yankees managers to win a World Series. The team has a solid opportunity this year with Aaron Judge and Max Fried leading the way.
