Jazz Chisholm Jr. Expresses Gratitude for Yankees Fans and Organization

While reflecting on his return, Chisholm Jr. told Yankees media he’s grateful for the love and support he’s received from the fans and organization. “I love this city already. The love that they’ve shown me made me feel like I’ve been here my whole career,” he said.

Primarily a second baseman before the injury, Chisholm Jr. will shift to third base going forward, with manager Aaron Boone keeping DJ LeMahieu at second. Chisholm Jr. played third base last year after the Yankees acquired him from the Miami Marlins. He’s a solid defender at the hot corner, finishing last season with six outs above average.

Chisholm Jr. said the only thing he cares about is winning a ring. He also shared that he has a great relationship with Boone and Yankees captain Aaron Judge, who encouraged him to be himself when he first arrived in New York.

Boone says Chisholm brings a unique flair to the team that energizes everyone. Chisholm Jr. is hitting just .194 this season but has impressive power when he gets hot. If he finds his form at the plate, the Yankees become even more dangerous.

Being welcomed into the Yankees’ environment certainly means a lot to Chisholm Jr., who was a polarizing figure during his time in Miami. Then-manager Don Mattingly acknowledged there was tension in the clubhouse but attributed it to Chisholm Jr.’s youth.

He notably did not get along with then-Marlins captain Miguel Rojas, who he accused of creating a toxic environment for young players. Chisholm Jr. claimed Rojas and other veterans didn’t appreciate the flair he brought and even destroyed his custom cleats, throwing them in the trash.

Luckily for Chisholm Jr., that chapter of his career is behind him. He’s now focused on thriving as a member of the Yankees.
