At 30-19 with four straight wins, the New York Yankees look unstoppable. Aaron Judge is on pace for an unprecedented season, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. is set to return to the lineup. The Yankees have won 10 of their last 13 games and haven’t lost by more than a run since May 10. But with Chisholm Jr. coming back, some adjustments need to be made.
Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s Reaction to a Potential Position Change
Chisholm Jr. was hitting just .181 before landing on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain. DJ LeMahieu, who’s been with the Yankees since 2019, is 10 years older than Chisholm and has nearly a decade more MLB experience. The decision isn’t entirely up to LeMahieu, but it’s clear the Yankees can’t keep both players at second base.
“It’s whatever, I already did it,” Chisholm Jr. said about a possible move to third base.
LeMahieu had a more reserved take: “I feel really comfortable right now. I’m sure we’ll deal with it when we get there.”
Well, “when we get there” is now. Chisholm has been on the IL since May 2 and his return is right on schedule. Even Yankees manager Aaron Boone has avoided the topic: “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

Chisholm shifting to third base wouldn’t be out of left field. He played center field with the Marlins before joining the Yankees last season. While he’s only played third base since arriving in New York, he didn’t get a single rep there during Spring Training. Asking him to switch midseason is an adjustment — but at this point, all options are on the table.
After Chisholm said he’s “ready to go back out there” and doesn’t “feel pain in his oblique,” it would be hard to believe the Yankees don’t already have a plan. While both Chisholm and LeMahieu said they’d play third if needed, neither seemed especially excited about it. Things could get interesting if Chisholm plays third during his rehab assignment — which is very much in play.

LeMahieu is hitting .211 through his first 19 at-bats this season. He homered in his third game back but has gone hitless in three straight games, with four strikeouts and two walks.
Chisholm was struggling before the injury, but the Yankees’ best shot at winning includes both players in the lineup — wherever they end up playing.
