In his first season with the Houston Astros, Isaac Paredes has felt right at home. It’s the fourth team he’s suited up for in his short MLB career, but Paredes hopes he’ll be able to build on the one-year, $6.625 million contract he signed earlier this season. That contract was signed to avoid arbitration after he was traded from the Chicago Cubs in December 2024. Regardless, everyone has loved having him on the team.

Astros Players Speak About Isaac Paredes’ Attitude and Energy
Paredes’s .254 batting average is the best in his MLB career. Through 80 games with the Astros, the 26-year-old wants to leave a lasting impression. Having bounced around from the Tampa Bay Rays to the Cubs to the Astros in less than a year, many in Houston’s clubhouse spoke about how calm and poised the infielder is in his sixth season.
“We don’t have many rules,” Mauricio Dubón said. “If you perform, if you’re ready to go at 7 p.m., OK, good. Get between the lines. We try to make everybody feel comfortable.”
Star closer Josh Hader described the clubhouse as “dudes just doing it.” Even though Paredes is one of the more prolific hitters on the team, he’s been able to take a step back and stay calm.
“At first in spring training, I thought it was going to be harder because you have all these superstars, so I thought it was going to be more strict,” Paredes mentioned. “But it’s the complete opposite. It’s very relaxing. They’ve been very open. And that gives (me) the confidence to go out there and play ball.”

Paredes is playing baseball his way, and that’s the patient way. He’s become the AL leader in pitches per plate appearance, racking up 37 pitches in four at-bats on June 29. In total, he saw 28.97% of the pitches that Cubs starter Jameson Tallion threw in the game.
With five hits in his last three games, Paredes has seen his average dip slightly in June. The .247 he’s hit is down from .262 last month, along with the .263 he hit in April. Regardless, he remains unfazed as he’s hit six home runs and driven in 14 runs this month.
If it weren’t for Jeremy Pena, Paredes would pace the team in basically every statistical category. Pena leads the team in batting average and total number of hits, with Paredes leading in home runs (17), RBIs (46), and OBP (.378). He has four more home runs than the legendary Jose Altuve, and six more RBIs than Pena.
