Hyeseong Kim Gets Blunt on Los Angeles Dodgers Role Amid Lack of Playing Time

The Los Angeles Dodgers are never strangers when it comes to MLB free agency. This past offseason was no different. The Dodgers signed a flurry of big names, including pitchers Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, and Japanese star Roki Sasaki.

Los Angeles also signed South Korean infielder Hyeseong Kim to add some flexibility to the roster. Kim can play various positions, which is an added benefit for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ ballclub.

As of June 16, Kim has appeared in 30 games for the Dodgers, batting .382 with a pair of home runs in just 68 at-bats, so he hasn’t been used a ton. Then again, the Dodgers have Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Tommy Edman, Max Muncy, and other stars clogging up the lineup on a daily basis.

Despite the limited play, Kim has no issues and had a humble response when asked about his playing time.

Dodgers IF Hyeseong Kim Is Humble As Can Be Despite Limited Action

Kim was recently asked about his limited role, especially with fans wanting him to play more. The Korean infielder had a perfect reply.

“But there are a lot of players who are better than me…I’m trying to do my best in whatever role I’m in,” Kim said through a translator.

The Dodgers have one of the best top-to-bottom rosters in baseball. Kim is right with his comments, although it’s more of a testament to the LA lineup than Kim’s abilities.

Kim has provided some excitement to the team and the fanbase since being called up in May. He has also played well against left-handers, prompting some to ask Roberts to play him on a daily basis.

On Sunday, June 15, Roberts spoke about Kim’s play, and it sure sounds like he might get more playing time in the near future. “He’s doing everything he needs to do,” Roberts said.

Kim went 4-for-4 on May 31 against the New York Yankees with a double and a home run, then he had a pair of hits twice over the next four games. His at-bats have opened plenty of eyes.

Nonetheless, while Kim is humble, he could see more playing time soon.
