San Francisco Giants announcer Mike Krukow had plenty to say as his team dominated the Athletics, 7-2. Luis Severino, who has made it clear he wants to be traded, went out and hit three Giants batters as his record fell to 2-10.
Severino’s wild pitching continued to expand the Giants’ record as one of the most hit teams in MLB history.

Mike Krukow Calls Out Umpire Protocol After Three Hit San Francisco Giants Batters
The 37-54 Athletics aren’t competition for a team like the Giants. Even though the Athletics took the first game of the series, 11-2, San Francisco sits in second place in the NL West and remains in the division title hunt.
While there are now teams worse than the Athletics, their reputation for poor play still stands, and Krukow took offense to how the situation was handled.
“The thing about baseball that’s a bit odd. The Giants have had 2 hitters hit. The A’s could 3 more and they wouldn’t get warned. But if the Giants hit one guy, they’re gonna get warned.”
“Great rule. Unbelievable.”

In the first inning, he said, “The thing about baseball that’s a bit odd. The Giants have had 2 hitters hit. The A’s could 3 more and they wouldn’t get warned. But if the Giants hit one guy, they’re gonna get warned. Great rule. Unbelievable.”
When the Giants led 5-1 in the sixth, he added, “I shouldn’t call that a rule. It’s umpire protocol. A team drills somebody, a team retaliates and you react to it…But considering how many times the Giants have been hit here in this last month…it makes you think about how can you handle the situation.”

Giants Among MLB’s Most Hit Teams
Throughout MLB’s history, the Giants have been hit by pitch more than almost any team, with sources listing them at or near the top of all-time HBP totals. Historical data suggests they have been hit thousands of times, though the exact number may vary slightly depending on the source.
Krukow joined the Giants Wall of Fame as a pitcher before becoming a full-time broadcaster in 1994. He’s been around baseball forever and has seen it all. In a situation where the A’s hit the Giants three times, he knew San Francisco would likely be warned if they retaliated with a hit by pitch.
Unlike the heated rivalry between the Dodgers and Padres, there’s no real bad blood between the A’s and Giants. These two teams have no reason to be hitting each other, as it was clearly just another off night for Severino, who has not pitched well at Sutter Health Park.
The Giants picked up the win, but Krukow’s comments started an interesting discussion about umpire consistency and how teams handle repeated hit batters.
Severino’s struggles continue to mount as trade rumors swirl around the veteran pitcher. His inability to locate his fastball cost the Athletics any chance of staying competitive in this one. For the Giants, the victory keeps them within striking distance in a competitive NL West race where every game matters down the stretch.
