On Friday, New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, his wife, Amy, and their sons enjoyed a soccer game at Yankee Stadium. The Coles were spotted in the stands at the Yankees’ home stadium, which was converted to a makeshift soccer field to host an MLS game between the New York City FC and Toronto FC. The home team prevailed in the contest by three goals to one.
Cole had been sidelined for the entire 2025 MLB campaign even before the opening day after undergoing the Tommy John procedure on his pitching arm. While the 2023 AL MVP is recovering well from the TJS, he will only take to the mound in Yankees pinstripes next time in the 2026 season. The Bombers revamped their bullpen rotation with the addition of Max Fried and some other relievers this offseason.

Gerrit Cole’s Wife, Amy, Shares Sweet Moments from Yankee Stadium
On Friday, Cole’s wife shared some delightful highlights from the family’s joyous outing at Yankee Stadium with a big twist. This time, they watched a soccer game instead of the usual baseball game at the Bombers’ home in the Bronx. Cole’s wife captured the Yankees ace rocking an NYCFC jersey for the game, enjoying time with his sons Caden and Everett, and both boys jumping in anticipation of the MLS game.

The NYCFC plays all its home games at Yankee Stadium until it moves to its new, still under construction, soccer-specific stadium in Willets Point, Queens, NYC, which will be called Etihad Park. The stadium is scheduled to be completed and inaugurated in 2027.
Cole, a true fan of various sporting leagues, also follows other sports besides his first love, baseball. Despite being sidelined for the entire campaign, he is always present in the dugout for the Yankees’ home games and keeps boosting the morale of his teammates. The Bombers’ recent struggles in the big leagues warrant such a positive action from their ace.
The New York Yankees Are Finding It Difficult to Get Out of Their Losing Slump.
Till May 28, the Yankees sat comfortably atop the AL East division, almost seven games ahead of the second-placed team. After a disastrous run in June that saw them lose multiple games, the Bombers are now placed second in the division with a 48-40 record, sharing the place with the Tampa Bay Rays and two games behind current leaders, the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees kicked off a three-game Subway Series against the New York Mets at Citi Field on Friday night and lost the series opener 6-5. This has extended their losing streak to five games. The Bombers will be hoping that something gives in the remaining two games of the series so that they can find a positive way out of this losing slump.
