New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor officially won the hearts of New York Mets fans last season for various reasons. His elite production, steady presence in the lineup, and improved leadership are huge reasons for his status as a fan favorite.
That said, it’s his walk-up song that might have had the biggest impact on strengthening the emotional bond between Lindor and Mets fans. After welcoming his second daughter last summer, Lindor changed his walk-up song to “My Girl” by The Temptations. By the postseason, a packed Citi Field would erupt in a sing-along before every Lindor plate appearance, creating one of the coolest moments in MLB.
So, imagine how shocking it was when Lindor suddenly introduced a new song before his second plate appearances on Friday, May 9.
Francisco Lindor Shocks Mets Fans at Citi Field
Lindor, along with his wife Katia, recently welcomed the family’s third child and the couple’s first boy. The Mets star dedicated “My Girl” to his wife and two daughters. But now that there is a boy in the family, Lindor decided to honor him with a song.

After hitting a leadoff home run in his first at-bat, Lindor debuted “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell to the Citi Field crowd as he came to the plate in the second inning.
Mets fans at home had a heads up, as Steve Gelbs of SNY gave those watching the broadcast a heads up while Lindor was on deck. However, fans attending the game live were not privy to that information, and some in the stands looked stunned that they were not singing along to “My Girl.”
Despite the sudden change, the Mets faithful seem to be embracing the new song. Athlete Logos, a sports apparel shop, posted on X a strong approval of the new song.
“Marvin’s voice playing inside Citi is music to my ears,” they said on X.

That said, one X user noted that “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” will be difficult for fans in the stadium to sing along to, especially compared to “My Girl.”
“francisco i love you and you’ve never done anything wrong in your life but i do not think the citi field crowd has the vocal prowess to do an ain’t no mountain high enough sing-along,” said the fan.

The change was sudden but not necessarily permanent. Gelbs noted that Lindor will alternate between the two songs throughout the season and even did so during the game.
The potential future Hall of Famer collected three hits on Friday against the Chicago Cubs. Interestingly, those hits came when he walked up to the plate with “My Girl” playing. It was also noteworthy that he struck out during his first plate appearance with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as his walk-up song.
