The New York Mets’ scores against the Pirates in Pittsburgh read 1-9, 2-9, 1-12. A 30-4 drubbing in the series has left Francisco Lindor shell-shocked and Carlos Mendoza almost speechless. And Mets fans are livid after one of the most brutal defeats in the club’s history.

Francisco Lindor Admits Mets’ Failures in Brutal Stretch
Mets’ shortstop Lindor has been shockingly poor at the worst possible time. In the three-game series sweep by the Pirates, Lindor recorded just a single hit in 12 at-bats, and over the last seven games? He’s slashing at a bleak .138/.161/.172 in 29 at-bats.
While Lindor isn’t solely to blame for the Mets’ collapse, he has been a factor in these losses, and his struggles at the plate have been a key reason for the team’s offensive woes during their recent skid.
“It’s a tough stretch for sure. Hopefully getting the day off and getting away from the field, we can come back and get back on the horse.”

After being swept 3-0 by the Pirates, he spoke to reporters and said, “It’s a tough stretch for sure. Hopefully, getting the day off and getting away from the field, we can come back and get back on the horse.”
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza took accountability for the team’s rough stretch. “We are all frustrated,” Mendoza told the media after Sunday’s loss. “We’re better than that, and they know that. It’s a tough stretch. We’ve got to be better, and it starts with me.” Despite the losses, Mendoza said the team still has confidence in its players.

With an off-day, followed by a series against the red-hot Brewers looming, he wanted the Mets “to bring their best game” against Milwaukee. Coach Mendoza also urged fans to keep supporting the players and admitted that the team was “obviously not happy about” their recent performances.
‘Not Just Losing… Getting Smoked Every Game’ — Mets Fans Express Outrage
Mets fans weren’t impressed by the postgame comments from Lindor and Mendoza following the 30-4 series collapse in Pittsburgh.
“If they can’t beat the Pirates, they have no chance against the Brewers,” one fan wrote. “I can hear the boos from the stands already.”
“They’re not just losing, they’re getting smoked every game,” another fan commented. “Fix this quickly.”

One X user mocked the Mets’ recent “players-only” meeting, pointing out that it did little to change the outcome on the field. The fan jokingly called for a “fans-only” meeting next.

While Mendoza drew criticism, some fans felt he was not entirely to blame, instead shifting the blame to the players and the higher-ups. A Mets fan doubted Mendoza’s ability to guide the side through postseason but noted, “But can’t fully blame you until Stearns fires Chavez and Barnes, and stops shopping at the thrift store for pitching.”
The Mets have now dropped 13 of their last 16 and have fallen 1.5 games behind the Phillies in the NL East. If they’re going to stop the slide and bounce back, it needs to happen now.
Pirates have a decent team, very good pitching and finally a good manager. Should only sell a few good prospects for a good home run hitter and keep the rest. Mets in 1973 were 12 games out of first and last place at mid season and won NL and almost World Series.
