The Colorado Rockies have been the worst team in the major leagues by a mile this year. They seem to be on course to surpass the 2024 Chicago White Sox, which finished with the worst win-loss record in more than half a century.
MLB Fans Roast the Rockies After Record-Setting Poor Start to the 2025 Campaign
On Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies notched a 2-0 win over the hapless franchise to complete a four-game sweep at Coors Field. As a result, they dropped to 8-42 for the season, the worst record in the major leagues at the moment by seven games.
Moreover, it is the worst start by any MLB team in the Modern Era, going all the way back to 1900. They are below the 9-41 record of the 1904 Washington Senators, as well as the more recent mark of 10-40 from the 2023 Oakland Athletics.
Starting pitcher Germán Márquez posted a fine outing against the Phillies on Thursday, giving up just two runs in seven innings. However, the Rockies’ lineup flunked once again after getting shut down for the third time this week.
“I feel like every day is our day, and we have to go out there and do our best to win,” Márquez told reporters after the game. “I feel we need to be together, and I feel we’re closer to that point.”
Fans from other teams did not share much sympathy for the Rockies on social media. They roasted the franchise with their comments on X as the team set the new low mark after getting swept by the Phillies.

“If we’re going to be bad, be epically bad,” wrote a Colorado supporter.
“At this point, it’s more exciting to see how bad they can really be,” said another fan.
“This team is going places,” another fan added sarcastically.
The Rockies did not harbor great expectations for 2025 after finishing at the bottom of their National League West last year with the third-worst record in MLB. Their front office had also fired long-serving manager Bud Black earlier this month.
Colorado has not won a single series this year, while they have won consecutive games just once thus far. On the other hand, they have already been swept in a series on seven occasions, while they have also racked up three eight-game losing streaks.
Meanwhile, their current run differential stands at -165, which is almost twice as bad as the next lowest mark of 185 from the Baltimore Orioles. They lost 21-0 to the San Diego Padres this month, getting shut down by a prospect making his second MLB start.
At -125, the Rockies have the fifth-worst ERA+, which takes into account the hitter-friendly environment of Coors Field. Without the consideration, their 5.82 team ERA is the worst among all 30 franchises.
On top of that, Colorado holds the worst fielding metrics among all the major league teams, with -33 defensive runs saved. Their 45 errors this season are also the most any team has committed in the field.
