Dodgers vs. Yankees Box Score, Key Stats and Takeaways Ft. Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the New York Yankees for the opening encounter of a three-game series on Friday night. It was the first time the two teams faced each other since the 2024 World Series.

The Dodgers came into this contest at the top of the National League West with a 34-22 record. Meanwhile, the Yankees have already built a commanding lead with their 35-20 record at the top of the American League.

The visitors grabbed the initial lead at the top of the first inning with a solo home run from Aaron Judge. The home team responded immediately as Shohei Ohtani leveled the scores with another leadoff home run.

The Yankees swiftly regained their advantage as catcher Austin Wells drove a line drive homer over the right field wall on the first pitch of the second inning. Trent Grisham then added to their lead with a two-run homer.

Kiké Hernandez pulled a run back for the Dodgers in the bottom of the second on a ground ball that brought Tommy Edman home. However, Paul Goldschmidt restored the three-run advantage with a solo home run in the third inning.

Tony Gonsolin recovered from his rough start by posting three scoreless frames to hold the Yankees’ batters down. Ohtani started off the sixth inning with his second home run of the night to kick-start another comeback from the Dodgers.

Freddie Freeman followed up with an RBI double, which brought an end to the outing from his former teammate Max Fried. Outfielder Andy Pages then came up with an RBI single to tie the game at five runs apiece.

Tim Hill, the Yankees’ lefty reliever, allowed a bases-loaded walk to Michael Conforto, which put the Dodgers in front for the first time in the game. Hill managed to limit the damage, nevertheless, with a double play to end the expensive inning.

The home team secured its advantage after the stretch. A 2-RBI double from Pages put them into a three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh. The Yankees could not find the answers against the Dodgers’ bullpen and went down to an 8-5 defeat.

The much-anticipated contest between the Yankees and the Dodgers more than lived up to the billing. Judge and Ohtani both showed why they are the standout candidates to win MVP in their respective leagues once again.

The Yankees’ offense showed its might early on but could not deliver when the pressure mounted later on. On the other hand, the Dodgers showcased their gritty mentality yet again to produce a marvelous comeback win.
