Clayton Kershaw finally picked up his first win of the year, and it came at the expense of the St. Louis Cardinals team trying to troll him in the process. The Cardinals are fighting for first place in the NL Central, but a dominant start from Kershaw certainly didn’t help their chances. After playing a video on the big screen that caught the veteran’s attention, one Los Angeles Dodgers star chimed in on the situation.
Max Muncy Sees Both Sides of Team’s Trying to Troll the Dodgers
Kershaw is now 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA as he begins to settle in after his fifth start of the year. At 37 years old, Kershaw has been pitching in this league since 2008 and has been a Dodger every step of the way. While Muncy has only been with the team since 2018, he’s still been able to see a huge portion of Kershaw’s career. Here in 2025, he still doesn’t understand why the team is trying to troll the three-time Cy Young winner.

“It’s kind of been a reoccuring thing we’ve seen with some teams” Muncy said. “They keep trying to play troll videos like that. I don’t know that necessarily was the case; I think it was more of trying to celebrate Cardinals history. When you’re the opposing team and that’s the video that’s popping up, it does feel like they’re trolling you, and you know it does seem to keep happening to Kersh.”
Knowing Kershaw’s history in the league, Muncy understands what comes along with that. “But at the same time, when you’re one of the greatest pitchers of all time and you’ve been pitching in this league for 18 years and you’ve gotten all the accomplishments, teams want to take advantage of that. Never seems to work out well for them, but they keep doing it,” he added.
Having not made his first start of 2025 until May 17, Kershaw looks to remain healthy for the remainder of the season in a depleted Dodgers bullpen. With over ten pitchers on the injured list, the Dodgers have continued to find a way to win, even without some of the best arms on the team. At 40-27, they’ve now won two straight after a rare series loss to the Cardinals.
In his eighth season with the team, Muncy is currently hitting .235. His average is up from last season and is the highest it’s been since 2021. Even though his batting average is up, both his slugging and OPS are significantly down. At this point in the season, the lefty has just nine home runs and 35 RBIs in 200 at-bats.
