Dodgers Drop Major Injury Update With Multiple Comebacks Ft. Tommy Edman, Tyler Glasnow and Others on the Horizon

The Los Angeles Dodgers remain one of the hottest teams in baseball, despite being hit hard by injuries to several key players.

While they were humbled in an 18-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Friday night, manager Dave Roberts shared encouraging injury updates, signaling that reinforcements are on the way.

Looking ahead, changes are coming at third base, and a new-look starting rotation is expected to take shape in the near future.

Tommy Edman Moves to Third Base as Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell Will Return to the Mound Soon

Max Muncy was recently placed on the 10-day IL with a knee injury and is expected to miss around six weeks. The 34-year-old could return as early as the Dodgers’ August 15–17 series against the Padres. In his absence, Tommy Edman will take over as the everyday third baseman.

While Edman’s .242 batting average is slightly lower than Muncy’s .250, the two have a similar number of at-bats despite Muncy appearing in 11 more games. Edman, who recently returned from an injury himself, is trending upward, he hit .244 in June and has reached base six times in his last three games, collecting two hits and drawing four walks.

After finishing a three-game series against the Astros, the Dodgers will head to Milwaukee and San Francisco to finish the first half of the season. While none of the Dodgers’ starting pitchers have been announced for the Giants series, their NL West rival has already confirmed their probable starters.

Excitement is building for Dodgers fans, as it was considered “feasible” for Glasnow to return in that series.

Glasnow is coming off a 9-6 season with a 3.49 ERA, down from 3.53 the year prior. He is currently 1-0, starting just five games this season before going on the 60-day IL due to a shoulder injury. He’s already made a few rehab starts in AAA, and the team would love to have back their 2024 All-Star pitcher.

Blake Treinen will join Snell in a live batting practice on July 5. Both players were on the 60-Day IL, with the Dodgers reliever looking to come back and rewrite his current 0-2 record. He picked up a pair of saves and three holds in his first eight relief appearances.

The update on Snell is that he’ll begin a minor league rehab assignment soon, depending on how the live BP session goes. Roberts would love to pitch five innings before he re-joins the team.

Finally, Roki Sasaki’s velocity has “ticked up” as the Dodgers remain optimistic that their star rookie pitcher could return before the end of the season. Things didn’t look good originally when he first went on the IL, but he continues to progress and will look to pitch off a mound in the coming months.
