Pete Crow-Armstrong is emerging as one of the Chicago Cubs’ bright stars. However, despite his impressive start to the season, Cubs manager Craig Counsell will keep things consistent in the lineup.
Pete Crow-Armstrong Stays Put in Lineup
Crow-Armstrong looks comfortable roaming the friendly confines of Wrigley Field as the everyday centerfielder. He’s off to a strong start, batting .294 with five home runs, 17 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases.
His .888 OPS shows he’s not just hitting singles. Half his hits have gone for extra bases, with one triple and nine doubles.
There’s been a lot of talk online about whether Counsell should move Crow-Armstrong up in the batting order. But Counsell shut that down quickly.
He spoke to Marquee Sports Network and explained, “I think our lineup is executing at a really high level right now. Who’s around you determines who your matchups are later in the game. We’ve got Pete insulated, and he’s going to get a lot of right-handers.”
“He’s been really performing against right-hand pitching. I think we’re in a good spot right now. It’s more important who plays than the order. I think they’re producing. So, there’s no intention right now.”
Counsell likes how things are set up. He believes Crow-Armstrong can do real damage in the seven spot. If a team gets solid production from the seventh hitter, that’s a bonus, and it helps turn the lineup over so the top hitters can get more chances.
National Notice
Newsweek, a publication that usually sticks to politics and national news, had this to say about Crow-Armstrong:
“Another stat of note is that Crow-Armstrong has come around the bases to score a run 21 times already this season. He scored just 46 runs last season, showing how impressive he and the Cubs’ offense have been at producing and manufacturing runs so far. Crow-Armstrong has all the makings to be a superstar in the league for the next 10 seasons, and it will be interesting to watch just how high of a level he can perform at not only this season but in seasons to come as well.
For a publication that usually focuses on hard news and politics, mentioning a young player’s probable ascent definitely places the outfield on a must-watch list for Cubs fans. Almost a decade passed since their miracle World Series run, and the team dismantled the entirety of that team. Now, a new day has dawned at Wrigley.
