The Atlanta Braves might have no choice but to go out and explore their options at the trade deadline. At 27-33, six games below .500, the team finds itself 11 games behind the New York Mets. With the Philadelphia Phillies and Mets running the division, it would take a lot for the Braves, who are just 3-7 in their last 10 games, to come back and compete for a division title.

Alex Anthopoulos Comments on the Trade Deadline
As a World Series Champion with the team in 2021, Anthopoulos knows a thing or two about winning. The 48-year-old has been with the Braves since 2017 after he spent six years as the General Manager for the Toronto Blue Jays. As the Sporting News Executive of the Year in 2015, Anthopoulos threw his thoughts out there as to what the Braves could do in the coming weeks ahead of the trade deadline.
Touching on that World Series win, “And the fact that we were in August and under .500 when you talk about ’21 — I mean, we’re just hitting June,” Anthopoulos said. “We’re two months ahead of that. So if we can be aggressive, whether it’s making changes, making trades, we’re gonna do that. And I’m not wired any other way than to constantly look to find a way to do what we think can make this team better.”
With a proven history of doing what it takes to win, Anthopoulos will be the first person to point out the move the team made in 2021. When Ronald Acuña Jr. went down with an injury, the Braves sent one of their first base prospects to the Chicago Cubs for Joc Pederson. Without Pederson, there’s no chance the Braves would have won it all.
Here in 2025, MLB fans are wondering what Anthopoulos has up his sleeve. While he didn’t say a trade was on the horizon or anything like that, it’s clear that it’s something he’s thought of and likely has been discussed in the front office. After starting the season 0-7, the Braves began to turn things around, but are once again heading in the wrong direction.
While losing 10-of-13, #Braves pitchers have posted a 3.54 ERA. Atlanta has been outscored 49-45 — an average of just 3.46 runs per game offensively.
They’ve scored 3 runs or fewer in 8 of those 13 games — all losses — with four of those losses by a single run.

May 15-16 is the last time this team has won back-to-back games. After that second win, they were 23-22. Fifteen games later, the team has gone 4-11 to put themselves back under .500. Currently on a three-game losing streak, it would behoove the team to not go out there and find themselves a reliable bat. Their pitching staff is clearly not the issue, it’s the fact that out of their five top batters with 197+ at-bats, only two are hitting over .240.
At the end of the day, .227, .232, and .237 batting averages aren’t going to cut it. Ozzie Albies, Michael Harris II, and Matt Olson aren’t doing anything to put this position in a team to win, as two of the three have a WAR of less than 1.0.
Trade for who? Joc again? Is there some young Big Mac that the pirates or white Sox have and need to trade?
Unless it’s the next coming of the Mick; Braves need more than one guy. I don’t see it. Suffering through project players and lack of any offseason moves have doomed this team.
