‘Kid Stuck in an Adult’s Body’— Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s Teammate Reveals the Side Of Him Fans Rarely Get to See

The Toronto Blue Jays recognized they had a generational talent in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. when he began dominating the minor leagues at a young age. It didn’t take long for him to establish himself as one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball, which is why the Blue Jays felt comfortable giving him a long-term extension earlier this season.

Not only is Guerrero an exceptional baseball player, but he also serves as a positive presence in the clubhouse — someone his teammates look to for leadership. Outfielder Daulton Varsho recently spoke glowingly about his star teammate’s character.

Blue Jays Teammate Praises Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s Attitude

Varsho joined Foul Territory to discuss Guerrero Jr. and what he brings to the clubhouse environment.

“He is the definition of a kid that is stuck in an adult’s body,” Varsho said. “He is the ultimate kind of prankster.” Despite signing a massive $500 million contract extension, Guerrero hasn’t let the financial windfall change his personality or approach with teammates.

While Guerrero isn’t having the best statistical season of his career, he continues to perform at a near-All-Star level. His batting average sits at .282, accompanied by 11 home runs and 40 RBIs through 78 games. Although he isn’t slugging to his full capability, he remains one of the most feared hitters in baseball.

Varsho also highlighted how Guerrero Jr. has evolved his approach at the plate this season. The first baseman is drawing more walks, accumulating 46 free passes in 78 games while striking out just 48 times. This improved plate discipline and on-base ability has created a significant positive impact on the Blue Jays’ offensive production.

Blue Jays in the Playoff Picture

Somewhat surprisingly, the Blue Jays find themselves firmly in the playoff conversation this season. Toronto sits at 43-37, just 3.0 games behind first place in the competitive American League East.

While Guerrero Jr. represents a major catalyst for their success, the team has also received unexpectedly strong production from role players like Ernie Clement and catcher Alejandro Kirk. Additionally, their pitching staff has provided solid contributions, particularly from veterans Jose Berrios and Chris Bassitt, both of whom maintain ERAs under 4.00.

It will be fascinating to monitor how the Blue Jays approach roster improvements around the upcoming trade deadline. The team could benefit from additional pitching depth, both in the starting rotation and bullpen — areas where talent typically becomes available in abundance during deadline season.

While the Blue Jays may not yet qualify as serious World Series contenders, they are clearly building around the right cornerstone player in Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
