Blake Snell Injury Update: Dodgers Manager Reveals Another Positive Step in 2-Time Cy Young Winner’s Rehab

After initially going on the 15-day injured list (IL) on April 2, Blake Snell might finally be nearing a return.

The former two-time Cy Young winner was placed on the 60-day IL, with the Los Angeles Dodgers eagerly awaiting the return of one of their star pitchers. Their injured list is plagued with pitchers, but Dave Roberts recently provided a much-needed update on Snell’s recovery.

Dave Roberts Says Snell Will Throw a ‘Full Bullpen Session’

Snell is currently in San Diego with the team as the Dodgers took Game 1 in a pivotal 10-game stretch against the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. With their 8-7 win in 10 innings against the Padres on Monday, June 9, the Dodgers will play them twice more in San Diego before enjoying a day off on Thursday, June 12.

After that, they have a massive 10-game homestand that includes three games against the Giants and four more against the Padres.

The NL West is the most competitive division in baseball, as the top three teams are all within two games of each other. While the Colorado Rockies have been arguably the worst team in baseball, the West has been a four-team race, as even the Arizona Diamondbacks are just 7.5 games behind.

The 32-year-old is familiar with the NL West, having spent 2021-23 with the Padres and 2024 with the Giants.

Regardless, these next nine games for the Dodgers could be crucial when it comes to standings at the end of the season, and Snell’s potential return could give the Dodgers the lift they need to take a commanding lead in the division.

“Blake Snell threw a ‘touch and feel’ session off the mound over the weekend and will throw a full bullpen session tomorrow here in San Diego,” Roberts commented on June 9.

That “full bullpen session” is expected to occur on Tuesday, June 10. If it doesn’t happen then, the team has one more game in San Diego before heading home.

Either way, it’s an excellent sign for Dodgers fans that Snell is nearing a full BP. The touch-and-feel session is a great approach to get a taste of how he’s feeling, as the recovery process has taken much longer than expected.

Snell signed a five-year, $182 million deal with the team, and they’d love to have him in the starting rotation to make up for that contract, even though $66 million of it is deferred money.

No matter what, Snell will be getting paid by the Dodgers through 2046. So far in 2025, he’s thrown just nine innings in two starts with the Dodgers. The lefty is currently 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA.
