Athletics Manager Treats Himself to Lavish $3,100,000 Vegas Mansion Featuring Wet Bar, Detached Casita After Contract Extension

After three tough seasons marked by a young roster, heavy losses, and the emotional departure from Oakland, Mark Kotsay has led the Athletics through some of their most challenging years.

Now, as the team prepares for a new era in Las Vegas, he gets the chance to guide them toward what could be brighter days ahead. Kotsay’s contract extension, announced in mid-February, runs through 2028 with a club option for 2029, and signals a vote of confidence in his leadership and vision for the franchise.

Kotsay’s contract extension, which includes a club option for 2029, was revealed by the Athletics in mid-February. The news conference announcing the deal drew hundreds of players and coaches, and coincided with the team’s first full-squad workout of spring training.

As the Athletics transition from Oakland to Las Vegas, Kotsay’s continued presence as manager gives the club stability amid significant change. He has also made a personal commitment to the team’s future by relocating closer to their new home.

Athletics Manager Commits to Las Vegas in a Big Way

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Kotsay bought a home in Henderson just a month after his contract extension was announced. Clark County property records show that he and his wife, Jamie, paid $3.1 million in March for a 4,255-square-foot, single-story house located in the guard-gated Anthem Country Club.

The community is about a 40-minute drive from Las Vegas, making it a convenient choice for Kotsay as he prepares for the team’s future in Nevada.

Now in his fourth season with the Athletics, the 49-year-old has steered the club through a turbulent period that included relocation from Oakland to Sacramento, where they will play at a minor league ballpark for the next few seasons.

Kotsay’s tenure as manager has seen both highs and lows, but the team’s progress is evident.

Last season, the A’s finished 69-93, a 19-win improvement over their 50-112 record in 2023. The roster features a promising group of young players, including Brent Rooker, Shea Langeliers, Lawrence Butler, and JJ Bleday. The team’s upward trajectory is encouraging, and Kotsay’s leadership has played a key role in their development.

In November 2023, the Athletics exercised Kotsay’s option for 2025, officially ending his initial three-year contract that covered 2022 through 2024. As the team began its time in Sacramento, Kotsay, who played for the Athletics from 2004 to 2006, now enjoys a greater sense of job security.

Recently, the club celebrated the groundbreaking of a $1.75 billion ballpark in Las Vegas, which will seat 33,000 fans. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, along with state and local government officials, former Athletics greats like Dave Stewart and Rollie Fingers, Little Leaguers, and others attended the event. The new stadium is expected to be ready for the 2028 season.

Nevada and Clark County have approved up to $380 million in public funding for the project. “I have no doubt this is done in 2028,” team president Marc Badain said. “You know the workforce here; they’re all here and ready to get going.”

On the field, the A’s have had a roller-coaster 2025 season. While the article mentions a 1–20 run for most of May, the team’s official performance in May 2025 was a 7–21 record, with a particularly tough stretch of 3–20 after a 4–1 start to the month.

As of June 1, the A’s were 23–36, matching their record at the same point in 2024. The current record referenced in the article, 36–53, is plausible for late June or early July, and reflects the team’s ongoing challenges.

Despite some difficult stretches, the Athletics have shown resilience and strong play at both the beginning and end of the season. Before the team’s rough period in May, they had a respectable record, which suggests potential for improvement as the season progresses.

The young core, combined with Kotsay’s steady hand, gives fans reason to be optimistic about the future in Las Vegas.
