Playing in a minor league stadium is no joke, but ask Athletics fans, and they will tell you the real joke is the team’s management. With the Colorado Rockies on pace to surpass the horrendous season the Chicago White Sox had in 2024, the Athletics are once again poised to be the laughingstock of MLB. The front office has made no meaningful changes despite one of the worst stretches in franchise history.

Fans Clap Back on Athletics 1-20 Stretch
Despite their terrible form, the Athletics are not even near the bottom of the league with their 23-40 record. The aforementioned White Sox and Rockies each have fewer wins than them.
The 12-win Rockies just won their first series of the year, so at least they have something to celebrate as the A’s have won just one of their last 20 games, matching the worst record over a 21-game stretch in team history.
A’s lose 6-1 to the Twins. They are now 1-20 in their last 21 games, matching the worst record over a 21-game stretch in A’s history (1916, 1920, 1943)

What the Athletics are doing is nothing short of remarkable, tying records the team set back in 1916, 1920, and 1943. Understandably, fans are less than pleased, and they continue to express their displeasure while no one in the organization seems to listen or even be phased by this horrific output.

“Fire Kotsay. This is a staple of his tenure. Every year he has a 2 month stretch where the team has a bunch of 10 game losing streaks,” one fan said.

Another added, “What do you expect with a patchwork rotation? Pitching used to be a strength of past A’s teams. From player drafting to development to coaching. Now it’s a joke.”
One more fan chimed in, “I don’t think we have ever seen a team in any major sport fall apart quite like this. They were two games over .500 and a game out of first place just one month ago…ughhh.”

The Athletics are once again at the bottom of the American League West, currently sitting 11 games behind the Houston Astros in first place. Shockingly, the gap between fourth and fifth place is larger than the gap between fourth and first.
The Athletics’ recent collapse has shaken the fan base, with one fan commenting, “The heartbreak continues.”
Exactly one month ago, the A’s were 20-16, taking care of business in 11 innings against the Seattle Mariners. Yet, 30 days later, they’re a completely different team.
While it may be hard to believe, the last three wins the A’s accumulated were against formidable opponents in the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees.
