Aaron Boone’s Optimism During Yankees’ Collapse Sparks Fan Backlash as Calls Grow for Accountability

Somehow, the New York Yankees are three games back in the AL East. The Toronto Blue Jays have been able to capitalize on the Yankees’ slump, a feat that the Tampa Bay Rays nearly achieved on a few occasions. Knowing that the Yankees have lost six in a row and 16 of their last 22, fans aren’t too happy with Aaron Boone’s post-game comments, as they’ve now lost back-to-back series.

Boone Acknowledges The Struggles But Looks at the Positives

After being swept by the Blue Jays, the Yankees lost the lead in their division. It’s a division they’ve been at the top of since the beginning of April, but their current downward spiral is the worst it’s been all year. Now, they’ve dropped their first two to the New York Mets, with a chance to avoid the sweep in their series finale on July 6.

“It’s been a terrible week,” Boone said. “The offense is starting to swing the bat again and put some runs on the board. The pitching, which has carried us a lot this season, they’ve really struggled this week. We haven’t caught the ball as well as I think we should. Look, when you live it, and you’re going through it, it sucks. It hurts.”

He continued, “Also, you have to be able to handle it, deal with it, and weather it and come out of this and grow. As corny as it sounds, these are the moments that build character within a team. And also, help you define what the heck you need moving forward and where you need to change or go out and explore for things.”

Yankees fans were less than pleased with Boone’s comments on SNY. One fan asked, “How is he not on the hot seat?” while another echoed that statement, “The character we’re trying to build starts with you getting fired, buddy.”

Even though Boone led this team to the World Series last year, fans continue to put him in the hot seat. The Yankees now have the ninth-best winning percentage in baseball, as they’re 6-16 record since June 13 is far from ideal. This fan called him a, “failed manager” as someone called out his strategy, “Oh please it’s the same crap story with Boone. He does this every year and when questioned responds with cliches.”

With the All-Star break right around the corner, the Yankees will host the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs as they look to avoid a potential 13-game losing streak heading into the break.
