Two-time World Series champion Joe Kelly has been sidelined by a shoulder injury since August 31, 2024. While his return date is not determined yet, he has made up his mind on which team he will be playing for.
In one of the recent episodes of the Foul Territory podcast, Kelly shared his mind.

Joe Kelly Makes His Team Choice Clear After His Recovery
On the Foul Territory podcast, Joe said, “If I come back healthy, I’m only playing for one team, and that’s the Dodgers.” Kelly reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the franchise that has been his home for five seasons.

Physical setbacks halted Kelly’s 2024 season. A right shoulder issue cost him over two months early in the year, and a new injury in September kept him out of the Dodgers’ postseason run. Kelly’s absence in October left a void in the bullpen. Before the injury, Kelly scored a 4.78 ERA, pitching in 32 regular innings, with 35 strikeouts and 19 runs allowed for the Dodgers.
Now, as he works toward a 2025 comeback, Kelly remains optimistic about his progress. He acknowledged that his shoulder isn’t yet at full strength. His determination, however, is as fierce as ever, fueled by his deep connection to the Dodgers.
Kelly’s tenure with Los Angeles has been nothing less than impressive. Since joining the team in 2019, he has become a fan favorite for his intensity and clutch performances. Beyond the stats, Kelly’s charisma has made him a favorite among fans and teammates. His contributions also extend to 2018 with the Boston Red Sox, where he helped them secure another championship.
Joe Kelly Got Punched in the Face
Kelly faced a shocking incident while managing his son’s youth baseball team. On the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast, Kelly shared being punched in the forehead by an opposing manager’s sibling during a nine-year-old game. Refusing to let the incident end the game, Kelly pushed his team to a five-run lead and a championship victory.
Beyond his personal life, Kelly’s insistence on playing only for the Dodgers raises questions about his future. The team’s bullpen could benefit from his experience and spark, but his recovery is the primary focus now. At 37, with a history of injuries, Kelly faces a steep climb to regain his former form.
However, his track record makes all the investment and waiting worth it. If the Dodgers reciprocate his loyalty, Kelly’s return could reignite the bullpen and improve LA’s chances.
