The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their 2025 rookie minicamp with plenty of new faces and storylines, but the spotlight was clearly on quarterback Jalen Milroe. After two days of practice, head coach Mike Macdonald shared a detailed and upbeat review of the third-round pick from Alabama.

Milroe, taken with the 92nd overall pick, came into camp known for his athleticism and strong intangibles. That athleticism showed during practice, but what impressed Macdonald most was Milroe’s mindset and leadership.
“One thing that you just, you don’t have a feel for Jalen, you know, watching tape or even watching him in practice, it’s just like the spirit he has from play to play,” Macdonald said.
“He’s got great energy, great competitive energy, about trying to get it right. Great command of the huddle, really takes pride in the operation.”

Seattle is in a bit of a transition at quarterback. Veteran Sam Darnold is part of the mix after a solid year with the Minnesota Vikings, but Milroe adds a long-term option. Macdonald pointed out that what separates Milroe is not just his tools — it’s how he carries himself in the huddle.
“All these fundamental things that we’re gonna be building on from the ground up. He’s just got a great attitude about it. Coaches are doing a great job coaching him every play,” Macdonald added.
“It goes for all our guys, but him especially. So, if you have that attitude, especially at the quarterback position, everybody else tends to fall in line, and in that regard, it was really fun to be around.”
The rookie minicamp also featured some intriguing names, including top interior offensive line prospect Grey Zabel, safety Nick Emmanwori, and tight end Elijah Arroyo. Still, Milroe stood out the most thanks to his leadership and energy.
With Milroe, Darnold, and Drew Lock all in the room, the Seahawks have options at quarterback. There’s still plenty of work ahead for Milroe, but early signs are promising. Macdonald pointed to Milroe’s eagerness to learn and his natural command as reasons he could climb the depth chart quickly.
If he stays on this path, Milroe’s impact could extend beyond practice soon. The energy, attitude, and leadership he brought in just two days left a real impression on the Seahawks’ new head coach.
Milroe will have time to develop, as Seattle just signed Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100 million deal to be their franchise quarterback.
