‘The Boys Know We Coming; I Know They Coming’ – Jordan Poyer on Facing Buffalo Bills After Switching Sides

Jordan Poyer will experience the Miami Dolphins-Buffalo Bills rivalry from a totally different perspective under the lights Thursday night.

Miami Dolphins safety Jordan Poyer hasn’t had to wait long to get his first crack at his old team.

Just weeks after Poyer signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Dolphins, the NFL released the 2024 schedule. Poyer couldn’t help but check to see when the Buffalo Bills — the team with whom he spent the last seven seasons with — would come to Hard Rock Stadium.

Poyer discovered that it’s not only in Week 2 but also in a showcase game. The Dolphins host the Bills on Thursday night on Amazon Prime. The entire nation won’t technically be watching, but it’ll sure feel like it.

Not long after the date was set, the trash talk privately began between Poyer and his former teammates and longtime friends.

“The boys know we coming,” Poyer said Monday, the day after the Dolphins’ comeback victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. “I know they coming. So it’s gonna be a fun Thursday night.”

Objective No. 1 for Poyer this week? Keep Josh Allen in check.

If he does, the team’s offseason signing will already be worth it. Allen is 11-2 in 13 career starts against the Dolphins, including the postseason. In 12 regular-season games, he’s completed 66.4% of his passes for 3,363 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.

That averages out to eight yards per attempt and a 110.1 career passer rating in games against Miami.

Poyer can help the Dolphins in ways big and small this week. He didn’t dismiss the idea that he might have a beat on some of Allen’s tendencies. But he blanched at the idea that one of the reasons the Dolphins signed him was to beat the Bills, the four-time defending AFC East champions.

“I don’t think that was one of the only reasons why I came here,” Poyer said. “One of the reasons why I came here was because I’ve seen this team over the last seven years grow and become who they are, and, you know, I wanted to be a help in becoming part of that stepping stone of winning the AFC East and going on a run in the playoffs.

“So, this is just part of it, right? This is just another game for us to win, to go 1-0 this week, and what a cool opportunity for Thursday night.”
