During a news conference before the Tar Heels’ clash against the Wildcats, Kentucky star Otega Oweh addressed the challenge of guarding Wilson, who has looked unstoppable at times this season. “It’s gonna be a challenge, but that’s what I was saying earlier, we just gotta set the tone from the jump, at the tip ball,” Oweh said. “We gotta make sure to be physical, so that the rest know that this is how the game’s gonna be played.”

“On top of that, we gotta stay in front of him in between the rim. We’ve played guys like that who are really good at getting downhill and getting to the free-throw line. So we just gotta stay on it and be aggressive.”

During the same press conference, Kentucky’s Collin Chandler also weighed in on the immense threat posed by Wilson and how the Wildcats planned to deal with him on Tuesday.

“Caleb Wilson, he’s been a problem for a lot of teams that they play. And so we’re ready for him, and what he brings. He brings a lot,” Chandler said. “He’s a dangerous downhill driver, and he’s so long. That creates a lot of problems.”

“It’s just going to be, who can step in and stop him before he gets to the hoop, which is a lot harder than maybe you can make it sound. But he’s a good player; he plays fast. He’s long,” he added.

When asked if he wondered if Wilson could have become his future teammate, Chandler said, “I’m not great at keeping up with the recruiting and everything that’s going on with it, but I thought it was a great visit. He’s a good kid, and we had a good time.”

The charismatic Wilson was a five-star talent and the No. 8 prospect in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. He was widely recruited by the elite in college basketball, including coach Mark Pope’s Kentucky. Ultimately, the decision came down to the Tar Heels or the Wildcats, and the talented 19-year-old forward chose to join coach Hubert Davis’ team.

On Tuesday, Kentucky fans inside Rupp Arena will get to see what could have been when Wilson plays against their team, who will be looking to improve their season record to 6-2.
