‘Devastating Stuff’ — Fans Rally Behind Jalon Moore After Achilles Tear in Pre-Draft Workout

News of Jalon Moore’s torn Achilles tendon has spread like wildfire throughout the basketball world. The forward injured himself during a workout with the San Antonio Spurs, which jeopardizes not only his chances of being drafted, but also his NBA career.

Fans React to Jalon Moore’s Injury

ESPN journalist Jonathan Givony reported on X that Moore underwent surgery to repair the injury and that doctors expect a full recovery.

Naturally, many fans have taken to social media to wish Moore, projected by CBS Sports as the No. 76 overall pick, a speedy comeback to the courts:

Mike Silverman, Jalon Moore’s agent, confirmed the injury and criticized the NBA’s pre-draft process.

“We’re truly heartbroken for Jalon. It’s time to revamp the NBA pre-draft process,” Silverman said, according to Hoops Rumors.

“Flying around the country to perform intense competitive workouts exposes players to risk of major injuries. No other pro sports league puts their draft prospects in this position.”

Moore entered the draft after a successful senior season with the Oklahoma Sooners in which he averaged a career-best 15.9 points per game. He shot 47.1% from two-point range and 38.1% from the perimeter and dished out 0.6 assists per game.

He also excelled as a defender, with 198 rebounds, 19 blocks, and 17 steals.

This injury came at the worst possible time, with the draft less than a week away. However, he wouldn’t be the first or last to suffer a ruptured Achilles tendon and successfully return to high-level basketball.

Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Dominique Wilkins are examples that this is possible.

But, it’s still an injury that is well known for its long recovery periods. There’s no doubt that for the time being, it leaves a big question mark on the 6’7″ forward’s career.
