The star Colorado duo faced a disappointing 4-8 season during their first year in Boulder, Colo.; however, they successfully carried their team to a thrilling 9-4 season in the 2024 college football season.

In Mel Kiper Jr.’s Mock Draft 2.0, the NFL analyst praised Hunter and projected him as the New York Giants’ third overall pick.

Mel Kiper Jr. Heaps Praise on Travis Hunter, Endorsing Him to the Giants

During a recent appearance on ESPN’s “First Take,” Mel Kiper Jr. joined Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, and Molly Qerim to discuss his thoughts on Hunter and his predictions for the NFL Draft.

Kiper shared that the Giants could take Hunter over Sanders as the two-way star is the best player in this year’s draft class.

Talking about the notion that people say Hunter is not as great of a cornerback as he is a receiver, Kiper said that since he’s been playing both, he’ll get better at the former before people know it when he puts all his energy in that.

“I think the Giants could take Travis Hunter over Shedeur Sanders. Travis Hunter, if you’re picking where you are and you get Travis Hunter, that’s pretty dog gone good.

“Travis Hunter, people say, well he is not a great corner, he is a great receiver, he’s played both, he hasn’t played just one, he hasn’t said, ‘OK, I’m gonna put all my energy into one spot’ … the energy you lose playing both ways in college and being this physical as he is and being out there for every snap.”

“This kid is unbelievable. He is generational. And he’s gonna let it play out, see where he’s best, and sprinkle him in at the other spot. So, for the Giants that need help at both corner and wide receiver, he would make a lot of sense. Obviously, Matthew Stafford, somebody’s got to come in at quarterback. If it’s Stafford, whoever it may be, that would allow them to go with another player, another position, like a Travis Hunter.”

The 2025 NFL Draft is set to take place in Green Bay, Wisc., from April 24-26.
