The Green Bay Packers pushed all their chips to the middle of the table for the 2025-26 season. After acquiring superstar Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade, their message was clear: Super Bowl or bust. However, over the course of 10 weeks, the plan has completely backfired.
Now, sitting at 5-3-1 and on a two-game losing streak, the Packers are outside the playoff picture, and the coach who was supposed to lead them to glory, Matt LaFleur, might be the first one to pay the price.

Could Matt LaFleur Already Be on the Hot Seat?
While the addition of Parsons has made the defense formidable, the offense has been the team’s anchor. The unit has sputtered, leading to three losses in games where their opponent scored less than 17 points. That kind of failure falls on the head coach, and as an offensive specialist who handpicked Jordan Love as the franchise quarterback, LaFleur is facing heavy criticism.
With Love struggling to produce and the offense stalling, rumors are heating up about LaFleur’s job security, especially since he is in the final year of his contract. This situation led Matt Chernoff of “680 The Fan” to share a startling rumor. Citing a trusted source, Chernoff revealed, “I was told that the Packers, who have been one of the stable franchises in all of the NFL, would make a switch at head coach if they didn’t make the playoffs.”
The pressure has been mounting for a while. After missing the postseason in Aaron Rodgers’ final year in Green Bay and then securing only the seventh seed in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, the organization’s patience might be wearing thin, despite LaFleur’s 72-36-1 overall record. The rumor also suggests a potential landing spot.
“He still has a connection with the [Atlanta] Falcons, a good relationship, and would be interested in coming back here,” Chernoff continued. For Chernoff, “that is the perfect choice for this franchise,” and considering the Falcons’ circumstances, it is a compelling idea.
In Atlanta, Michael Penix Jr. has taken over as the starting quarterback. However, his performance has been underwhelming, as he ranks just 29th on PFSN’s QB Impact metric. The prospect of pairing a young quarterback like Penix Jr. with a proven coach like LaFleur is intriguing.
Given his track record, LaFleur could potentially unlock his potential, especially with offensive weapons like Drake London and Bijan Robinson already on the roster. For the Falcons, that kind of offensive mind could be just what they need to turn things around.
