New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has given a brief update on the injury status of star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who’s working his way back from a toe injury. The receiver has been seen at Giants OTAs, but has yet to practice in full.
Daboll spoke to the press before practice on June 12, and immediately faced questions about his primary offensive playmaker.
New York Giants HC Brian Daboll Gives Injury Update on Malik Nabers
The second wide receiver taken in the 2024 NFL Draft, and the sixth player taken overall, Malik Nabers wasted no time in announcing himself on the NFL stage. The electrifying receiver recorded his first NFL touchdown and first game with over 100 receiving yards against the Washington Commanders in Week 2.
That game, just his second in the NFL, Nabers was targeted a missive 18 times, tied for the third-most of any receiver, in any game, all season. And it wasn’t a one-off; Nabers received the second-most targets, the fifth-most receptions, and the seventh-most receiving yards in the entire NFL in 2024.
With Nabers not practicing fully to start the offseason, it was to be expected that Daboll would be facing questions about his star receiver. Keen to pacify any concerns about the player’s health, Daboll had a positive update.
“Yeah,” he began when asked if Nabers was doing rehabilitation work. “He did a little bit of walk-through here; he’s progressing; he’ll be okay.”

Nabers’ 109 receptions in 2024 broke Puka Nacua’s record for most receptions made by a rookie wide receiver in NFL history. He finished three behind Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, though, so he missed out on the overall record for rookie receptions.
Nabers Has 3 New QBs in 2025, Including Vet Russell Wilson and Rookie Jaxson Dart
If Nabers is to repeat his 2024 heroics, he’ll need to form a partnership with the team’s new starting quarterback, Russell Wilson. Wilson is in New York on a one-year deal, with the 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart likely to take over from 2026.
Dart’s connection with Nabers will be key to any success that the Giants have in the long term, while his connection with Wilson will likely be key to Daboll keeping his job. The former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator has been the Giants’ head coach for three seasons and is on the hot seat in 2025.

Finding the balance between cementing a solid foundation for a successful future and making sure he’s around to see it will be a tough task for Daboll. The Giants fan base has grown impatient with the team’s lackluster performances in recent years, and Daboll will need to hit the ground running in September.
