The two teams in Los Angeles are in relatively similar situations, despite being on opposite ends of the spectrum regarding their quarterback situations. While Matthew Stafford has numbered years left in the league, Justin Herbert is just getting his feet set.
But, as good as both quarterbacks are, they need a strong defensive unit to make deep playoff runs. As a result, one analyst believes the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers could be ideal destinations for the most discussed trade target of the summer.

Could Los Angeles Rams and Chargers Add Depth to Their Secondary?
Last season, at their best, these were two of the best defenses in the league. The Chargers finished as the number-one scoring defense in the league and ranked fourth on PFSN’s Defense+ metric. The Rams, while not as consistent, had some incredible stretches.
In four of their last six games, including their two matches in the postseason, the Rams held their opponents to less than 10 points on the board. But their defense needs some additions, as they ranked 24th instead of the Chargers’ fourth-placed finish.
But even with the drastically different years that the two teams had on the defensive side of the football, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has them at the front of the line in a potential Jalen Ramsey trade, in his list of trade destinations for available stars.
The Chargers lost Kristian Fulton and replaced him with Donte Jackson and Benjamin St-Juste. On the other hand, the Rams didn’t go beyond resigning Ahkello Witherspoon. For two teams that want to make potential Super Bowl runs, a strong defensive year is a necessity.
And for Knox, that means targeting a player in Ramsey who suited up in all 17 games for the Miami Dolphins last year while giving up a passer rating of just 83.2. With trade rumors swirling throughout the offseason, he might be available for the right price.
It is a chance at reunion for the Rams, something head coach Sean McVay has openly discussed. Similarly, Knox added, “The Chargers could also have interest in Ramsey as they look to improve on last year’s Wild Card campaign.”

With reports suggesting Ramsey’s eyeing the Los Angeles area as his next, and potentially final, stop, both teams could be in the running until the finish line. Between the two sides, though, the Rams are the no-brainer option.
Not only does the defense need some help overall, but a reunion could rejuvenate the veteran cornerback while giving the Rams some much-needed help at the position.
