The Lions and Rams are no strangers. Yes, they’re two NFC teams. But this offseason they made a trade that included a swap of quarterbacks, with Matthew Stafford heading to Los Angeles and Jared Goff going to Detroit.

Can this be considered a revenge game? Certainly. Goff may feel like head coach Sean McVay and the Rams organization moved on too early, especially after he helped the franchise to the Super Bowl just a few years ago. But for Stafford, there’s still love for not only the city of Detroit but Lions fans, and one thing both franchises can agree on is they’re happy to see Stafford having an MVP-esque season.

Matthew Stafford should have his way with the Lions defense

Stafford is having the season many expected him to have in Los Angeles. Through six weeks of the season, he ranks third in the NFL in passing yards (1,587) and fourth in touchdowns (12). He’s created a rapport with wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who’s second in both receptions (37) and touchdowns (5) league-wide.

On Sunday afternoon, the Lions will be tasked with stopping a high-powered Rams offense that ranks top-five in yards and touchdowns. Detroit’s defense is on the other side of the spectrum, allowing the most yards per pass attempt (9.8) in the league. They’ve given up the fourth-most 20+ and 40+ yard passing plays through six games.

Lions vs. Rams prediction

Stafford and the Rams offense will steal the show. Goff and the Lions, who have just 12 touchdowns on the season, will struggle against a defense that’s allowed just 6 passing TDs in 2021. While they’re not as bad against the run, the Lions can also expect a decent dose of Darrell Henderson on Sunday.

Prediction: Rams 31, Lions 13
