The New Orleans Saints’ all-time franchise passing leader is backing new head coach Kellen Moore. Drew Brees spoke on the recent hiring and believes that Moore is the right choice for the job.
Moore was hired as the new head coach of the Saints after helping the Philadelphia Eagles to victory at Super Bowl LIX as the offensive coordinator.

Brees Has ‘Heard Nothing but Great Things About Kellen’
Brees spoke to the media at the recent Surge Entertainment opening in Metairie, Louisiana. He was asked about what he thought of the new hire and shared positive thoughts about Kellen Moore.
Brees talked about Moore from his time as a college quarterback at Boise State. Moore lost only three times in his four years as the starting quarterback for the Broncos, leading them to one of the most remarkable runs in the Western Athletic Conference.
“I’ve heard nothing but great things about Kellen. Look, I really respected Kellen Moore as a player with Boise State and a guy who’s a star, the winningest college quarterback of all time. They were always going in as underdogs and beating teams that they had no business being on the field with back when he was playing.”

Brees believes that the traits Moore showed on that historic college football run translated into his coaching career. Moore was a backup quarterback in Detroit and Dallas from 2012 to 2017, before moving into coaching.
“He was just kind of one of these methodical guys that you could see. He had moxie, he had leadership skills, and obviously, he was a clutch performer. He’s just carried over all those traits to being a coach. Quarterback coach, play caller, and now a head coach. So he’s worked his way into this position and deserves this opportunity.”
Brees concluded by backing Moore to succeed in the role.
“So look, he belongs here, and I think he’s great for this organization right now. He’s where we are, he’s great for his fan base, and he wants to bring a winner.”
Brees was speaking at the grand opening of his new business, Surge Entertainment, in Metairie. It is an amusement center with a variety of entertainment and dining options.
Moore Becomes 19th Head Coach in New Orleans Saints History
With his hiring after Super Bowl LIX, the 36-year-old Moore becomes the 19th head coach in New Orleans Saints history. He gets his first head coaching opportunity after stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles as offensive coordinator.
He will have his work cut out for him with the recent retirement of quarterback Derek Carr. Moore will have to find the starting quarterback for the 2025 season from a quarterback room featuring Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and 2025 second-round draft pick Tyler Shough.
